Is it normal to fear the dark?

Well this is kinda embarassing, please don't judge.

Even as an adult I fear the dark. Why you ask? I feared it even when I was very very young, I could not sleep at night without the lamp being on, thinking that something, or someone will get me.

Today I still am kinda nervous but I do not think that a "monster" will get me. I have crazy thoughts that something will try to strange, kill or just hurt me. This is probably just from countless horror movies I watched as a kid.

Is it normal?

And again, PLEASE DO NOT JUDGE!

Yes! it is normal. 19

I voted maybe, because there are a lot of things other than pretend monsters of which someone may be afraid. I feel especially bad for those men and women who were molested as children, for them the Boogeyman may very well have been a family friend, a relative or even one or both of their own parents.

We had black widows and scorpions in Las Vegas that could easily put one in the hospital. I'm surprised I never found any scorpions in my house. My folks lived a few blocks away and they were always finding scorpions.

I used to fear the dark too, but when i developed a severe depression, i started to love the darkness. I used to see monsters and black figures in the darkness but now they comfort me.
