Is it normal to feel self conscious in a public area with cycling shorts?

There are not many other black people where I live here in the Alps. I have recently taken up road bike training and have purchased regular and expansive Lycra short. When out, I have noticed an alarming amount of people looking in the general direction of my crotch. Believe me I am not claiming any %&*$# star qualities here but I would say that everyone, since I'm a big black guy, rush to look down.
When we stop to a bar or we take a walk, whenever we meet people, everyone check it out. I have noticed it and all my friends have noticed it.

    Why don't you try a different model or a different color... dark colors shows less than light colors (for instance) I guess. Also there are model with extra padding or less padding...find the one that best fits you. There is no need to feel uncomfortable.

      LOL During the weekend I have to wear the official outfit from out sponsor and guess what the color is. White (transparent white) :-(

    I thought that guys were always very proud.
    If I were a guy and if I were normal, I believe I would have found the position that make it look even bigger I would look natural and be very happy.

    For me..I'm booking a vacation in the Alps and I'm buying sunglasses with mirror lenses.
