Is it normal to feel the need stop / talk to everyone greet see even strangers?

My mother is a regular motor mouth Maybelle! We can not go ANYWHERE without her striking up conversations that are long and drawn out with everyone she greets, old friends, acquaintances, and complete strangers alike. It is so bad that one day we were having dinner at a restaurant and she pulled up a chair to someone else's table and they talked the entire dinner while we sat at our table waiting (well past the end of the meal). Don't get me wrong I was raised to greet people when you see them even strangers, a smile, a polite hello, have a great day it's like a southern beauty pageant! But it drives me and my siblings so nuts we don't want to go anywhere with her and I think it's hurting her feelings. Is she normal? Am I wrong?

If she's anything like my dad, she doesn't notice that she talks this much. But as a women, your mother is more likely to have her feelings hurt. I use to be embarrassed by my dad and his constant chatter. But now I just bluntly tell him that I can't talk/listen or we need to go. But it's more my mother's issue at this point. I rather enjoy talking to my dad, he has a story for everything and he gets along well with everyone.

Maybe she doesn't realise how much time she talks.
