Is it normal to feel weak after being attacked by a cat?

I was raking my yard without a shirt on and a cat jumped on my back, bit me and clawed my back for like 10 seconds while I tried to get it off.

Now I feel really weak and shaky I was thinking it might be rabies but I was also really scared while it was happening and I'm not sure if it's just me coming down from the adrenaline rush.

    Speaking from personal experience:

Cat scratches are harmless, but if you were bit, you should see a doctor. Cats carry a lot of bacteria in their mouths and a small puncture wound is near impossible to clean or debride.

I got bit by one of my dad's cats (breaking up a cat fight), right on my face near my eye. It was a teeny-tiny wound, about the size of a pinhead, so I thought nothing of it.

About 3 or 4 days later, I woke up in the middle of the night, sweaty, freezing cold, extremely disoriented, with massive fucked up looking swelling on my face (it looked insane)...had to go to the ER- my temperature spiked and went through the roof. I ended up paying a shitload of money (high deductible :|) to stay in the ICU for a week on IV antibiotics, with constant eye tests, CT scans, etc etc...it was extremely shitty being stuck in a hospital bed when I didn't FEEL sick.

All if that could have been avoided with simple antibiotics and a tetanus shot if I had seen a doctor right after I got bit. It totally sucked.

"Well, the first time that I got it I was just ten years old
I got it from some kitty next door
An' I went to see the doctor and he gave me the cure
I think I got it some more

They give me cat scratch fever
    Cat scratch fever
I got a bad scratch fever
    The cat scratch fever"

Rabies; not too likely. You need to go to a doctor, though.

If you typed your post soon after your attack I would say that you were coming down from the adrenaline.

Do cats actually carry rabies? I thought it was only dogs, and wouldn't it have been frothing at the mouth?

Excuse my ignorance, we don't have rabies in Australia because of strict quarantine of animals entering the country, which is why Johnny Depp copped so much shit for bringing those little dogs into Australia so sneakily

If you don't know whose cat it is go get shore especially rabies. Normal cats rarely attack random people.

  • Get it checked from a doctor if you still feel this way.
