when science is treated as the true religion, civilization benefits. Other than that, religion is destructive.
It's the hypocritical people that represent the religions that make it repulsive to be associated with.
I find the concept of religion and all of the indoctrination that goes on within religious institutions to be revolting. However, I don't fault the casual followers of said religions. Religious leaders on the other hand are pretty despicable.
Well it certainly is the cause of lots of pain and death in the world. But I've seen religion make people quite happy, though I might not ever get it. So I dunno if revolting is the right word. But sure.
I find the idea of "atheism" revolting... EXACTLY AS I SAID IN ANOTHER QUESTION: I dare someone to prove the Shroud of Turin, Guadalupe tilma, and Lanciano Eucharist to be fabrications- then try to refute the facts in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JiMqzN_YSXU - and then prove that no God exists. Maybe I'll convert to atheism if you can do that! If not, then I don't understand how anyone can hold to the irrational belief of atheism. Note:You must prove how the perfectly accurate coin that appears within one of the eyes of the negative of the Shroud of Turin was there since at least 800 years ago if it's not really the face of Jesus depicted through divine intervention, and also how the Virgin of Guadalupe in Mexico City was painted without undersketch more than 400 years ago...oh, and also you have to explain what the Dead Sea Scrolls mean!
lol why should we prove that god doesn't exist?
why don't you prove he does exist?
because if there is no proof either way, then logically it would make sense that god doesn't exist because when there is no proof it would be left to chance, and don't you think there is a higher chance of there NOT being a magic floating wizard in the clouds (change previous depending on your religion) than there being a magic floating wizard in the clouds.
I am not an "Athiest," I just don't choose to believe that there is a greater "power..."
To find religion revolting is to find the people that follow it revolting also.
I don't see how that isn't classed as hating.
In the broad sense in which your question is framed, yes. Religion is interesting when compared to people of a belief system. Oxymoronic? Yes. Ridiculous? No. I cannot speak on behalf of other "beliefs" as I do not follow them, but many of the Christians I know hate religion.
Religion doesn't mean you have faith, believe in God / gods, do your best to honor Him / them, do good works, etc. A religion is a systematic mentality expressed by a group of people that they demand is obeyed.
Religion is the heart of cults; religion is what flies people into buildings. Being religious only implies being a sheep. Loving your holy being, what ever it may be, and following them--not the motions of an assembly--is what makes somebody "righteous" unto his or her beliefs.
A belief can have fellowship, for certain, but requires a level of independence. I hope this makes sense, sorry haha.
I think its perfectly normal. It is mind control, after all. And think about that before down-voting, think of one aspect about religion that is not mind control. You are thrown some dogma and coerced to believe something completely off the rails crazy and then threatened with eternal suffering if you don't adhere to those rules. Mind...control....
