Is it normal to ghost mentally ill people

Is it normal to stop talking to toxic mentally ill people because their beliefs are really stupid and shitty? I know some people will cry about giving them a reason why your leaving instead of ghosting but why? They’re assholes and I’ve tried to help but they don’t listen. I don’t like them anymore and couldn’t care less if I hurt their feelings. Yeah their mental illness makes them that way which is out of their control. But if they won’t change there is nothing I can do.

Sometimes you have to cut people out of your life because they will only bring negative things into it and are not good for you. You can't be expected to set yourself on fire in order to keep someone else warm. I used to keep toxic people around (many of which had mental health issues or a severe lack of social skills as well) because I felt bad that they had nobody else, but I eventually got tired of being their verbal punching bag and being used. I don't deserve that whether they can't help it due to mental illness or not, and neither do you. We can't change them and aren't qualified to help in the way they need. As for whether ghosting is appropriate or not, that depends on the situation, but there are times when it is safer and/or better to just no longer associate with someone without further ado.

Also, many people use relatively minor mental health issues such as mild autism, or even self-diagnosed issues that may not even be accurate, as an excuse to behave poorly when they absolutely have better control over themselves than they'd like to let off (and this is apparent when they are around people who won't tolerate their BS and change their tune; if they truly didn't know better or couldn't help it, they wouldn't only do it to people who put up with it). Nobody should feel obligated to cater to that nonsense.

I think I understand what you're saying. I've had my share of dealing with friends, family, co-workers, dates, and customers at work that would continuously make fools of themselves and then use mental illness as an excuse every time. Some of the friends I had said they can't change and just screw everyone they love over. Since I refuse to believe that people are just born to hurt others all the time, I just eventually dropped these people. They refuse to put any effort into self improvement and I don't have the time for pointless nonsense.

I relate. I fucking can't stand my cunt of an aunt for always puking from her chemo treatments. Why can't she just get better?

    It depends of course.

Clearly you're the pragmatic sort, nothing necessarily wrong with that. I'm sure you're aware that the mentality you have isn't exactly favoured in society, it does however make sense to not want any unnecessary hassles in life. I'm not saying I agree with you, I have however met some with similar views as yours. As you said, you 'tried to help but they don't listen'. It can of course harm those you're ghosting since they're "mentally ill" as you say. But as I said before, it can make sense that you don't want any unnecessary hassles in your life.

What if they can't change? Try loving someone exactly as they are.

You cannot change anyone, they must do it themselves.
