Is it normal to go to school and work as a cop?

How likely would it be to be able to go to college while being a cop. I am now old enough to try for the academy and with my background and everything I think this is the best chance I have. Cop jobs pay 24Dollars an hour so I will have money to attend school.

Ive known cops that got their degrees while on the force. If you study enough and have time for school then go for it if thats what makes you happy.

You can but it could get difficult.

As a cop, you will likely be working rotating shifts, meaning that you may not have a solid schedule and may not always be able to get off work at the time you're supposed to get off due to the handling of an incident so if you're going for a brick and mortar education (actual classroom), your best bet is starting at the community college level where classes are a bit more flexible in their scheduling. Once you get to University, it will get a lot harder. University classes are not as flexible in scheduling as community college.

I would definitely recommend that you enroll in an online program and study... hard. I'm doing an online course right now and it's a struggle not to get lazy. Where there's a will, there's a way though so be sure to ask the school counselor of whatever school you go to to see if the credits you get in the police academy can apply to a degree. If you get lucky, they may apply to a graduation requirement.
