Is it normal to grab opponents crotch during wrestling match?

I had a fight with a friend over soemthing minor, but it came to a shoving match, then wrestling match. I was in trouble since he took wrestling in school. But I'm a little bigger than him.

I was actually winning, telling him to give in, and he almost got out of my hold but I pinnedhim again. The next time he tried to get free he grabbed my crotch, and really got a hold of my dick. It was hot out, so I had thin cotton shorts over boxers. So he was really able to grab what he wanted. He adjusted and got a hold of my balls, squeezing a little. Now I'm freaking, and start to let go, as he slips, and is just holding on to my shaft. Once I got fully off him, he let go. This all took place over 4 seconds maybe, but felt like an hour when it hurt.

I was just swearing at him at this point, massaging my balls, as they killed from being squeezed just the wrong way for a sec. He then realized he really hurt me, and felt sorry.

He goes on to confess to me that it was just habit. He said when he needs an edge during one of his wresting matches, he will pinch or squeeze the other dudes package for a sec, to throw them off their game. Or he will try to smash his dick into the face of his opponent, again, to throw him off.

Was he lying to me, and that is illegal in the game? Or could that be true? Do they do that? I'm sure they are not supposed to, but do they regulate that?
