Is it normal to hate people that are too ignorant to spell or use punctuation?

For example: Congradulations instead of Congratulations. Knowing the difference between their/there/they're. Your/You're. Text speak.

Honest to God, when I see this, it makes me want to spit acid. The occasional spelling mistake is fine, but to be so ignorant... I'm sorry, I'm going to have to leave for five minutes to calm down.

Spelling mistakes are allowed in responses to this post. It will be inevitable. No doubt there'll be at least six twelve year old boys who will purposefully make spelling mistakes, and unwittingly make some when not even trying.

Is it that hard to get a spellcheck Firefox extension?

TL;DR- See title.

I feel the same exact way. The second that someone spells something incorrectly or uses bad grammar, they lose 90% of the initial credibility I gave them from the beginning. I don't know if I should be this quick to judge, but I am. It always came so easy to me- so I can't fully understand those who can't grasp the concept. But to the OP, you're perfectly normal.

  • It annoys me to death when people don't even try to spell properly in posts. I mean I know text talk can be useful but if English is their first language and they don't have learning problems, then I think that there is no reason for it.

You are so not alone in feeling like that.

When writing an essay or a email to a boss I always double check and make sure all is right.

However between friends. In a message. Aim. Txts. Shit like that? As long as the words convey what I'm trying to say what does it matter? Why back space 7 times to fix one letter if the person it gonna understand what I wrote regardless

I'm the same. I'm rather intolerant with ignorance. Can't stand it. And English is not even my first language.

I also agree with the OP ! The quickest way to show stupidity (in my opinion) is to do idiotic things like what the OP is talking about. To me, you lose all credibility when you show your ignorance of your own language like that.

  • I'm on my iPod Touch, so if I do, I'm honestly sorry. :p

It bugs the crap out of me. Seriously, it makes me wonder if they're actually smart enough to have a job. Let's leave it at, I completely agree with you. :D

I totally agree. I mean typos are one thing but to not have a basic grasp of your own first language is just sad. That being said, if you don't know the person, you can't actually know if it's their first language or not so I usually don't say anything.

Thr two that really drive me crazy:

    I seen it.
    I did good.

  • I don't mind the occasional u or r or 2 like that but saying "r u goin 2 da mall!!!111" irks me to no end. Also, I don't mind a bunch of exlimation marks but tying so many !'s that you end up typing a 1 is a little redundant, no? Spelling mistakes are fine because I'm not a great speller. And to the second comment (I think) if you need to defend yourself by calling the OP stupid, then I'm guessing you need to boost your ego. But if you want to sound redundant, by all means go ahead.

I feel the same way! It's just the basics that people should know. And it isn't about being smarter! it's about knowing your own language!
