Is it normal to hate people that assume i am mentally ill just because i have this?

I know I've got high functioning autism, people in my class seem to think I'm a dude with mental health problems just because I told people and they think I should go and get help. I know autism is a normal thing but people in class don't think so.

Personally, I would expect them to think no lesser of me. It’s not a “mental illness” and the only people who would assume that are ignorant people like you. He very clearly did not tell them he was mentally ill, that’s not what autism is at all.

Of course autism is a mental illness/disorder you idiot . It’s not a physical illness/disorder is it !!!!

And yes he did tell them , his words

“ I'm a dude with mental health problems just because I told people “

        Can’t you read either .

No it’s not right they pick on him or what ever they do , but their children and that’s what kids do unfortunately.
but he should be in a special school that’s adapted to his needs , not in a school of general.

Autism actually isn't a mental disorder. It's a nervous disorder. It's neurological, not psychological. That makes it a physical disorder. It can be comorbid with mental disorders, but it is not itself a mental disorder

I have autism too and I was tired of others excluding me because of it. When I was in school, the other students would only come to talk to me if they had to for a school project. I only felt a sense of belonging in my religion drama class. That's only because I recently had gallbladder surgery at the time.

On the flipside, while I was in an assistant learning center (doing classes for high school credits); I made some friends. Additionally, a few of my elementary school friends joined a year after my freshman year. Spending time with them has taught me that what I have doesn't define who I am as a person. I'm still friends with the same group today. They're really amazing and I'm glad I can call them my friends.

It seems they were trying to encourage you to get some extra help (schools do offer that). And you’re taking it the wrong way.

I have high functioning autism too, and since I was diagnosed when I was 7, every time I was upset or insecure about it, I was told that it’s not an illness, a disease, a disability, and everyone who told me so were ignorant. It’s an advantage. It doesn’t feel like it most of the time, but in the long run, you are more capable, more intelligent and have more potential than any of those shitheads in your class. They need to actually do their research on what is and isn’t an “illness”, because this certainly isn’t one

What mental illness do they say, or think you have? It's not uncommon for people on the autism spectrum to have co-occuring mental health disorders. If you have been diagnosed with a mental illness it's not your fault, and not something of which to be ashamed, however it's none of their business, and it's certainly not their place to speculate on whether, or not you have a mental illness.

Well, fuck those people in your class, buch a cunts. If you're up to it, it might be a good opportunity to educate them about what autism actually is. It's a lot more diagnosable these days, so chances are they will be interacting with more than one person who has autism during their lives. You'd be doing them a favor by snipping their ignorance in the bud.
