Is it normal to hate school?

so I know the title is a little ambiguous but hear me out on this, man.

I got accepted into a great college out of high school. I'm currently studying mechanical engineering there.

Throughout high school I enjoyed going to class, seeing my friends and going to the gym after class with friends to work out. I enjoyed school and got very good grades.

Now that I'm in college I hate class, I hate school and I just don't reap any rewards for the amount of effort I put into classes. I'm at the library every day for at least 4 hours doing HW and studying. I'm failing three classes right now and I just cannot stand to see myself fail and be miserable all the time. I would take fewer credits, but then I would lose my scholarship.

I've considered dropping out but I feel that I would only be a disappointment to myself and to my parents.

I feel your pain. I personally don't mind school as long as I'm not failing. It's a slap to the face when your efforts are no good.

My only advice for you is to take easy classes over the summer. They'll help boost your gpa.

Don't give up, a college degree means not having to do shit jobs for the rest of your life.

Hahaha, which country do you live in? In this country, we have between 50 and 200 applicants for an academic job - with a contract for two or three years. I know someone who has two master's degrees with honours and a PhD, and is a taxi driver.

In this sense, a driving licence maybe worth more than any academic degree, although our government publicly expresses "serious concerns" on the low number of young academics. We need so many more (they say), but right now I learned that funds for grants were substantially reduced recently. Talented students have a hard life! Interesting to see that, at the same time, the scientific level of teachers' training has been lowered continuously over many years by the admirable prudence of our politicians.

Ambiguous? Seemed pretty straight forward to me.

Anyway, why don't you try taking less units per semester? It might make college longer but it'll be a little bit easier.

As for hating school, the notion is completely foreign to me. While I hate shitty educators, the attainment of knowledge is amongst the most rewarding facets of being.
