Is it normal to have earphones in ears without music and eavesdrop on people?

I do this often in public places and on public transport. People think I'm listening to music but I'm listening to their conversations. I can't help it, people fascinate and intrigue me. I know it's nosey.
As well as eavesdropping I also like newsdropping, that's reading the front page of someone elses paper as they hold it up.

I do this all the time. It's especially good for listening to the ranters without grabbing their attention. And if I'm standing, the reading material of those sitting near me is game.

    • One day they'll find you upside down in a dumpster, strangled with a pair of headphones.

    • Oh shit what have I done. I knew I was not like the other kids, I just kept telling myself that I could pretend but the price of doing that has taken its toll on my soul. I don't want to go to hell when I die I must repent! All my worst fears have come to fruitition. Aghast the devil stood, and felt how awful goodness is, and felt how awful goodness is

Ummm, you do know that you can still eavesdrop in public without having anything in your ears.
It's when your roommates are having sex that you need to put the ear buds in, so they think that you can't hear them, and they start getting into it, but little do they know, you are jacking off under the covers.

Reading anything that someone else is reading... I just love it and can't help it.

I love to do this, i'll just sit there pretending to be minding my own business and be listening to other peoples conversations.
If my phone dies when i'm out and i've been listening to music, i'll just leave the earphones in and eavesdrop. XD

I'll leave them in when not listening to music, but not to eavesdrop so much as to stop people from talking to me when I don't feel social.

Yes i used to do this when little, slightly different though. My parents would always tell each other the family goss when my sister and i webt to bed. We honed our listening skills that way and would find out all the family secrets. Slightly voyeuristic but i love it.

Not completely related(okay, not related at all.) but, I HATE when my friends try to talk to me when I have my headphones in and am blatantly trying to drown them out. Like seriously? Music on, mouth off.

    • Why would you ignore your friends? If you're trying not to engage with them surely you can't call them friends? Oh me so confused

They are my friends. I love 'em, and I usually never shut up around them. But i need my music time. I love music too much I guess. :P If we're in a car, for example, and the convo kinda dies down, i tend to immediatly start listening to my ipod, then when they try talking to me again, im always too involved with the song to pay attention. lol
