It's most likely kidney or liver disease.

Seeking health and medical advice from the random people on this website makes me question your sanity. However...

For what it's worth, your descending colon is in your lower left abdomen and gas getting trapped there can cause a very uncomfortable, cramp-like pain. Maybe it only occasionally occurs due to what you've happened to eat and your position and inactivity combining to cause the gas to get stuck? Just getting up and walking around can help get things moving, as can some self-massage to try to work things downward.

This is something I've yet to understand. None of us on the site claim to have any sort of medical certification yet people regularly ask for medical advice. If it was something like "Hey, what do you guys use for joint pain?" it would be more understandable. Just general "This hurts. Why?" is pointless and we always just say to go to the doctor.
