Is it normal to keep focusing on a certain part of my body?

Sometimes I'd keep repeating the name of a disease in my mind (it's a kind of cancer, but I don't want to type it here). Also, I'd focus on that part of my body and it actually causes some sort of discomfort. As a result, I'm constantly anxious when this happens... It's like I have no control over my thoughts. I wouldn't say this is normal, but please leave a comment here if you also experience similar thing :(

Fortunately, I've also noticed that it gets better when I'm doing stuff that requires much thinking.

You CAN control your thoughts: make yourself a list of other things to focus on when these thoughts come up, write them down and keep it handy.

You've let an anxious habit become an obsession: I suggest you check out Cognitive Behavior Therapy, either with a professional counsellor or via the net and/or books. It's a fairly simple and logical method of changing destructive thought patterns to positive ones: it does take perseverance and consistency.

You've sort of answered your own question anyway in the last sentence.

You need a hobby or something. It's one of those weird things like the placebo effect or false pregnancy. It's all in your head.
