Is it normal to keep going over and over stories in my head? (read post)

Whenever I am watching a tv show, movie, reading a book/comic, or anything with a story I always go over the entire story in my head from the start to where I was currently in the story while reading. Say I'm reading one of the Game of Thrones books I'll be mid way through the book and think how did the character get to this stage and go through all the events that happened to this character to get to the stage I'm at. I can't stop myself doing it and I can do it multiple times during a book like around 10 times.

Imagine doing that with multiple characters, it's really annoying. I do it while watching films as well, I'll watch say Harry potter and be on the last film and I'll have to stop the film multiple times to go through the events in my head that lead up to this point in the film.

Anyone else do this? Maybe some sort of memory problem or OCD? Anyway to stop it :-P?

Is yours the same as mine? Do you have any information online about it, how did you find out it was OCD?

Thanks for the comments guys nice to know I'm not slowly going insane lol.

There was a forum online dedicated to people with OCD. I think it was called "stuck in a doorway". I don't know if it exists anymore but you could try to google that or you could try another OCD forum.

I always knew I had it as I was also doing other repetitive behaviors and when I googled OCD, I realized that's what I had pretty much all my life. Some people don't get it until later but I think because I got it so young, it was easy for me to accept the other repetitive behaviors as OCD. For me, after watching a movie, tv show or reading a chapter, at the end, I go over all the events in order and if I mess up, I get annoyed. I don't feel I need to research that as I know if I don't do it, I don't feel "right" and this led me to believe it's definitely part of OCD. Some people just have this one part of it and you're definitely NOT going insane.

I wouldn't call this OCD. The technique of which you described has been done by shows, more specifically, in some animes. At the start of a new episode, they'll will tea count what has happened so that the viewer will know where the story is. I remember they did this in the Original Naruto series. It got on my nerves because by the time it took to say all of these things, there was barely any time left in the show. They did this for many episodes, and the story line was unable to progress at a normal rate. Eventually, they dropped it. Sometimes this can work. It was done with Inuyasha and it didn't seem to eat up the time for each episodes.

This is why I stopped reading books, I know it makes me an idiot or whatever to say I don't read books, but it's nearly impossible, as I have to not just run it in my mind but read the same passages over and over to make sure I got every detail. Before this i could read books faster than most people. It could be OCD- I have it for other things too

I think this is a great thing to do to exercise your memory recall. I used to do this at night before I'd go to bed but I did it to avoid thinking about my past.

I only do that with the really good stuff because I don't want to miss anything. If someone were to, say, threaten me with a samurai sword and make me watch Twilight, then no, I wouldn't do it.
