I bought a caravan. I put it on a friend's farm. I put solar panels on top. Everything's electric. I drink filtered rain water. I have no rent, no mortgage, no electricity bill, no gas bill, no water bill, no council tax, nothing to pay for. I don't need money, I don't need a job. I am free to spend all my time on my hobbies and whatever I like. Is this normal?
That sounds like bliss.
The only problem would be if something needed repairing/replacing. Couldn't hurt to keep a few ££ for emergencies.
Rather be connected to society but have the skills to be without. You do you but by typing out that post you wanted 1 hour of power usage on a sunny day.
what kind of hobbies do you enjoy? Last I recalled, some hobbies still cost money.
I pick flowers. Haha. Seriously though, I do have stuff from my old life, computer, etc. I didn't say I live in an empty caravan. But your question is great, the biggest challenge of off-grid living is when you realise that now you have to decide what you want to do with the rest of your life. I mean, what would you consider worthy of your time, attention, energy and effort? All of a sudden you take this question seriously. And it ain't no small thing to ponder as the quality of the rest of your life depends on it. I volunteer a lot. You MUST find your purpose, something you don't do when you spend all your time struggling to pay your bills.
I envy you.
