Is it normal to loudly fart in my apartment when people are in the hallway?

My old college roommate does some unusual things to spur reactions from strangers. He told me that a few weeks ago, he ordered a large pepperoni pizza and ate it while also drinking a 2-liter of Mountain Dew. He said that this concoction gives him a lot of gas and that, for fun, he would look out the peephole of his apartment and then try to fart as loudly as possible when he saw anyone walk by to see if anyone noticed. He said that a few of his farts were quite loud and the people in the hallway heard them - most of the people either started laughing or appeared to be grossed out. He also said that he had to open the windows to air out his apartment after about 15 minutes of this, as it starting smelling pretty heinous.

Is this a normal behavior?
