Is it normal to never take ur phone wit u and not know how to speak txt!

My best friend and I both have iPod touches and we both have the same apps that let you call and text people for free. The only problem is, though, she doesn't realize that she has a phone now. She never has it with her. So when I want to text her from my iPod, I have to call her on her home phone and tell her to "get you iPod out". Then we text and I always end up trying to explain to her what "brb" and "o.0" means. is it normal for her not to be "text-smart"?
Btw (see I did it again), it RLY pisses me off when someone uses CAPS and correct punctuation and don't even use those cute little emotes! For example:
Without text language:
"Hi, friend! I'm going to the mall to pick out some new clothes for the prom! I'm going to bring my boyfriend. Want to come?"
With text language:
"hai frnds! goin to the mall to pik out sum new clothes for prom... gonna bring my bf. <3 wanna come? :P"
See? Much better, rite? Who else agrees with me v.v

    I stopped using txt grammar ever since I caught myself doing it in an exam. I now only use lol i think.

    all of you are saying you hate text speak but Im sure Ive read some of your comments and not understood them because they were so laiden with it that I would need urban dictionary to get through the first sentence. Fuck text speak, and anyone that has transitioned from using text speak into their verbal conversations should die slow.

    I only use the abbreviations if I'm in a hurry or need to keep a longer text under 160 characters. It's really pathetic how often it's used in every day life. I'm starting to wonder how many people really think "know" (to have knowledge) is spelled "no."
