Is it normal to not be able to differentiate between dreams and memories?

This may sound strange but sometimes when I look back on a memory, I can't tell if it actually happened or if it was just a dream. I have a really bad memory. Like, bad enough to where I don't remember much of my childhood. Only bits and pieces of it just like the remembrance of a dream. So for me, its hard to swim through the fuzziness of reality and dreams and tell the two apart.

I get that a lot, mostly because I often dream about such inane every-day things that they could well have happened, like just sitting at my desk at work and talking to someone. Makes it quite awkward when you then mention that conversation to them in passing and they have no idea what you are talking about.

I've heard of this before. I remember reading a thread on reddit where someone asked the same thing. A lot of people, myself included, agreed that sometimes we have also have trouble remembering if something really happened or if we dreamed it. With that in mind, I believe it's semi-normal.

I remember someone asking the same thing on this reddit thread I was on a lot of people, including myself, have had similar feelings. With that in mind I want to see that it's semi-normal.

Have you done a lot of drugs, had a head injury or experienced emotional trauma in your youth?
