Is it normal to not know where i want to work?

I've studied art and now I'm kinda stuck. I moved to bigger city, I wanted to find some job in art industry but it's everything about advertisement and I'm not really into it or everybody wants someone who has years of experience and I graduated just last year. So I took the first job that came which is shopping assistant with cosmetics and it's nice because I really like to talk to people (I did for a while design for magazine and I felt kinda sad because I couldn't talk with people) but I still feel it's not what I wanna do. Recently they started lowering my pay month by month because we don't have many customers (because of COVID19) and now I think about changing job but I have no idea what could I do since everyone wants someone with specific school or experiences. I don't even know which field should I go to.

It’s normal to have little idea. I’m 24, have worked in 4 industries and am ready for the 5th.

Also entry level jobs who want years of experience are normally bullshiting, they know they won’t really get someone who fits their shopping list of “requirements”. It’s always worth an application.

Yours is a common situation; and good paying jobs are hard to come by. Fact is that most people don't really like the job they have. They adapt to it because it provides enough income to support their family and lifestyle.

I'd like to suggest that you are actually asking the wrong question. That is normal because our education system is designed to create workers and you've been taught all along to get a good education and get a good job (although the concept of a good job that you could work at most of your life and support you and your family well almost entirely vanished by 30 years ago).

I suggest that the right question to ask is: What do you want to do in life, how do you want to live, where do you want to be in 5, 10, 20 years, etc.? Forget how you get the money to do what you want to do for this exercise. How do you want your future life to be?

After you have answered that question... then ask: OK, what kind of income opportunities will allow me to have that dream life? Most people find that most jobs will never allow them to live their dream life, although they may need a job for temporary support while they work on another opportunity that will provide the long term finances and life they desire.

Most people can also only achieve their dream life by becoming entrepreneurs and building their own businesses.

That is not for everyone; and it is not easy either (and there are many pitfalls). But, it is doable and I seen many people do it (and have guided a few in the process).

If you are really interested in that - I'd be willing to have personal discussion with you on typical possibilities and what might fit you.

I have no specific business idea or plan to offer you (and if someone tells you they have something that works for everyone - they are lying and I suggest you run from them; there are some plans out there that work for "some" people - but you must match the plan for them to work).

I have 4 businesses (Covid has not treated them well this year especially as I've had some lingering health issues from Covid - but, they should do OK long term), and have assisted 3 people start financially successful businesses - and none of them were related to anything I do. But, I do know a lot about various ideas and trends and what it takes to succeed in building any business. Perhaps we can find a match for you... (and perhaps not).

    PM me if interested.

    • Hello, I'd be interested in talking with you more through PM but it says that I have to have IIN gold and I don't have that.

I believe that you can overcome that small obstacle if you wish to become successful.

  • In my senior year I wanted to be a mechanical engineer, I'm really good at math and loved science, but I ended up dropping out of college

Now I want to study psychology because well, I've already watched a few courses on YouTube, it's helped me grow as a person, and I think I can really do some good in the world with it

I also read a story about a nurse who loved the idea of nursing but didn't like the hospital environment. She became something like a cosmetic nurse, basically she works at like laser hair removal places or whatever because she really likes talking to women (big money just to have girl talk with other women)

Point is, whether you stay in your field or not you'll find something, especially if you have to work a customer service job for a while

Have a rough plan then use a real plan what you want to do in life.
