Is it normal to not understand this? am i too smart?

Apparently the phrase "I am trying to figure out what I am going to do with my life" seems to not to make a lot of sense to people. To me this sounds simple and straight forward. Am I just smarter then most people? I really dont think I am but this is simply beyond most peoples comprehension. Its frustrating since I dont know how to simplify it MORE as I thought this was simple and I have to break it down into smaller pieces. Does anyone else have this issue?

Are you saying this to people and they dont understand?

Maybe they are asking you what your doing to figure it out...like steps you are taking.

Added to favourites for making me laugh. Not sure if that was your intention.

I guess for people who've had a dream their entire life they've been following, somebody not knowing what they want to do with their life would seem incomprehensible. Though, perhaps their incredulousness is just a mask for their worry about you. People in older generations especially seem to think one is lost if one has no path in life. People hate the idea of somebody wandering around aimlessly, not contributing to society in any way.

People DO tend to glaze-over and humor me when I say things like this, but not for lack of understanding that I'm aware of.

Well, it would make more sense if you said, "I am trying to figure out what I am going to do for the rest of my life", or "I am trying to figure out what I am going to do with the time I have left", or "I am trying to decide what I'd like to accomplish during my life", but "I am trying to figure out what I am going to do with my life" will do.
