Is it normal to only ever drink excessively, to not enjoy just having a few?

I don't get why people like to go out for "just a few", I only go out if I know I'm gonna get absolutely plastered. Otherwise I feel like it'd be a waste of time. If I get a little bit drunk then it's not drunk enough to enjoy myself, but it's too drunk to be able to concentrate properly on anything afterwards when I'm back home (like typing out this question for example, or even for more fun things like gaming). It just spoils the rest of the day if I'm a little bit drunk.

Plus I don't particularly like the taste of any alcoholic drinks. The only one I really like is vodka and coke, and that's just because it just mainly tastes of coke. If I wanted to drink for the taste, I'd just have a regular coke or something.

I get that people don't like to promote excessive drinking, but I'd rather just not drink at all if I'd only be able to have a few.

  • I just want to point out that I'm not an alcoholic, despite what some of these comments are saying. If you knew me you'd be laughing at those claims. I very rarely drink. I guess I didn't make it clear that I only like to drink when I go out, and because of my crippling social anxiety, that's probably less than 10 times per year. Even if I had friends to go out with, I still probably wouldn't go out any more often than once every 2 weeks. If I were an alcoholic I'd be drinking away at home everyday on my own. My point is that on those occasions when I do go out, I like to get very drunk. I like to be either completely sober or completely drunk, I don't see the point in being any way inbetween.

Repeat after me, "my name is OP, and I'm an alcoholic". Sorry, dude, but what you're describing is not normal healthy behaviour.

I enjoy and savor my rum and don't drink to excess, because I don't want to make a fool of myself or get into a car accident. I can't stand being around people who binge drink, regularly make fools of themselves, and can't remember all the stupid shit they've done. Sorry, but I have to be honest with you.

Makes sense to me. I used to be exactly the same. Now I can enjoy "a few" very rarely, but even then I usually regret it because it just throws me off - can't sleep and then feel rubbish for ...what? A small buzz for a few hours? Not really worth it.
And sidenote, no offense to Americans, but they've got an overly cautious attitude towards alcohol, in my opinion. It's just an opinion. You like to get drunk and omg suddenly you're an alcoholic! It's fun sometimes, doesn't make you an alcoholic unless you do it too frequently and can't stop.

It's something to be careful about, and it's not good to get blackout drunk too often. But if you enjoy it every so often and especially if you're still young, then go for it.

But yes, I get what you're saying - it's only really worth drinking if you're going to get properly drunk. That makes sense.

Long island ice tea's. I can drink those to much.

If you like vodka try Luksusowa Vodka. It's one of the best I have ever had. It's a triple distilled potato vodka from Poland, where vodka was invented. Also Luksusowa means luxury so you can expect it to be good. And it's not that expensive.

I used to be like you when I was young. But now I only drink six( maybe seven) times a year.
