Is it normal to only have crushes on people you know online?

Don't get the wrong idea, I have a normal amount of guy friends in real life. But it seems like I am only developing feelings for guys that I met through social media. (and have not met in person)
The thing is, 100% of the men whom I had feelings for online live far away from me. (countries away) Could it be that I just don't like the typical male that lives in the same area as me? Could it be that it is a lot easier to create you own persona and make yourself a whole new person over a computer screen?

    I think it's because it is convenient for you.
    You like the idea of having an intimate (phone) relationship and giving it everything you'd give a real relationship and at the end of the day, when you put your phone down, the relationship is over until you pick your phone up again.
    Or if you feel like you don't wanna deal with something, you can ignore the person until you feel ready again.

    Subconsciously this is just you readying yourself for the maturity that a real relationship requires
    But for now you are just busy troubleshooting.
