Is it normal to only like one edition of a book?

I remember when The Hobbit movies were first coming out I read my dad’s really big 50th anniversary edition and loving it. Later I would try rereading it in paperback and found it really boring. Every few years I reread it along with The Lord of the Rings and I really only like reading that big 50th anniversary edition (although the pocket versions are ok, but it just doesn’t give me that same feeling).

I can't fully relate, but there are plenty of people who are the same way. Certain editions of books just feel more 'special' than others.

Most books I own are cheap paperbacks with printing errors, which is fine by me because the contents are (more or less) the same. The only time I ever sought out a specific edition of something was because it was an edition with illustrations by someone whose stuff I really like

The feel of the book is important to the reading experience and I agree with you that hardbacks are far more satisfying to hold.

I work at a library and have noticed that I’m stricter than most when it comes to removing books that are falling apart or tinged with irremovable grime, the condition of the book matters.

It’s not normal to keep reading the same book time and time again. Whatever your taste in books there’s thousands out there to choose from, why don’t you try reading something else.
