Is it normal to over-work yourself at work and appear to be a "bro" but still be offended by gender stereotyping towards you?

i work extremely hard, lift things i shouldn't lift, run myself until i'm dehydrated, multitask 4-5 things at once, and i am not the person my employees think i am, they think i'm a "bro" or some type of "man's man" *scoff*, and when someone tells me i'm a 'hotshot' or 'masculine' or i over-hear people talking about what 'a real man' does, it angers me to no end. there is no such thing as 'a real man' or 'masculinity', we are all human, raised differently, experiencing different things in our lives, so it comes down to specific people and what they can do, some people are stronger than others, it happens, there shouldn't be any gender standards in the work-place, or anywhere for that matter.

A 'real man' wouldn't be lifting things he knows he shouldn't. He'd have more brains than that, even if he had the physical ability.

Learn to ignore them. There's no point in getting worked up over what they say.

It pisses me off too. A lot of men I know who are masculine and manly who are ardent in considering themselves "real men" are usually dicks on some way.

The last guy I hung around like that would complain that such and such guy isn't a real man like him because that guy didn't have manual labor skills and a lot of physical strength. I'm just sitting there thinking "yeah, but he's trustworthy, supports his family and is a good, reliable husband, friend and father and what the fuck do you do for your family? Bitch about how they expect too much from you when they might interfere with your partying time. I know that guy's wife doesn't have to beg him to babysit his own kids.".

But nope. Real man = stereotypical masculine. Yep.

Well men can lift more then woman on avrage.

I think its ok to still be irritated since you are only trying to do your job to the best of your ability.
And if you are a different person at work.
