Is it normal to own a pet spider

I dont know the gender yet but im thinking its a male because its on its own and theres no eggs around it. I have named him Shairy because spiders can be scary, plus hes hairy and hes part of nature. I was going to get rid of him but I fell in love with him after spending about 1-2 minutes watching him hunt for little insects in his web and it was cute seeing him hide. If it is a female ill let her keep the name Shairy and Ill look for more little friends for her.

I knew a kid in high school who said that he wanted to own a Black Widow and then invite kids from school he hated over to his house and have the spider "accidentally" bite them.

Sure. It's as normal as having a snake as a pet.

I owned a Peruvian Pink Toe, Mexican Red Knee, and a very menacing looking Trinidad Chevron tree spider.

I once caught a Huntsman spider and kept it in a plastic bug house. I fed it things like little caterpillars and it have been happy because she ended up laying eggs which of course ended up hatching and this was in my bedroom and most of the baby spiders ended up escaping. I don't know what happened to them sadly. It was fun to have her as a pet.
