Is it normal to pretend to be the opposite sex online

I'm a straight female, but I prefer to pretend I'm a straight guy online..or I joke occasionally about being a gay guy. I don't know why I feel more comfortable, but it's easier for me to act this way versus being a female. I've been doing this since I was 14, and I'm 21 now.

I don't like disclosing I'm a female or showing people pictures of what I actually look like, because it seems every time I've done that people change the way they see me and don't take me seriously as much versus me portraying myself as a guy.

In real life, I'm feminine looking but I don't exactly act feminine. So I guess this kind of contributes to my behavior.

Is it normal? Anyone else have similar situations?

Or dresses with pyjamas on them, or pyjamas with dresses on them. Let's face it, I just need a pyjama dress. Or a dressy pyjama. Or medication.

I troll the ESPN boards all the time posing as a woman. I get a great sense of accomplishment with of all the crap talking I do.

  • Heh why lie? Next thing you know, you start talking to someone and get interested in each other and then your lie backfires. I think it's just a great way to start any kind of relationship.

Lots of people do that! If you honestly think you might identify as a guy you should give that some thought (though that's pretty "normal" too), but pretending online doesn't mean anything that serious.

I have VERY similar situations. What sucks is when you make friends and try to convince them that you're a girl not a boy. I will never say that I'm male, but since I always set my stuff as male people automatically assume. I guess I just like screwing with people? I dunno.
