Is it normal to quote tv characters

I've started the habit of quoting anime characters, specifically Vegeta from dbz. I say stuff like "you are no warrior" "your power is laughable" "I alone have the strength to continue". I think vegeta is awesome and I want to be like him.

Let me get this straight, you want to be like a comic book character? Honestly? A two dimensional, ridiculously unrealistic looking comic book character?
    You have such meger aspirations.

Wow, what a witty and intelligent response. Just how long did it take you to compose it? You are so original.
I just don't understand why you haven't been named the most erudite person on the planet.

Comic book, cartoon, anime and etc, some of them can be an inspiration to the target audience. You shouldn't judge them by their look. I know that you're not from the era where people enjoyed cartoon shows. At least, you sould respect those who enjoyed and take a cartoon as an inspiration in their life. OP might actually meant to imitate the said cartoon personality for motivation and stuff. I don't think he meant to be the said cartoon character to blow the planet and stuff. You should sometimes respect the generation after you. Sorry if you take offense.

I take no offense to your opinion, or your right to one. However it seems most of these cartoons are designed for children with the lessons so directed.
The modern 'adult' cartoons, though terribly popular, seem pretty lame to me and awfully boring. Family guy, the Simpsons, South Park and the like all left me cold; not particularly notable production wise. They are very, very cheap to produce with zero creativity, only the same old lame ass rehashed jokes, in a new format.
Now with people actually falling in love with these characters. It seems to be a form of social withdrawal that isn't the least bit healthy. No wonder they have 'social anxiety'; people have real two way conversations, unlike their beloved two dimensional cartoon characters.

It's hard to find some motivational cartoon though but trust me, there are some of them that actually help the audience in real life. I respect your opinion, though.

  • My brother watches DBZ, I used to aswell. I won't lie, I'll be checking out that Frieza returns movie too.

I like to mess with my brother a little sometimes. Like he's say something and I'd just imitate Vegeta, doing the deep and strained-like voice he has. My brother hates when I do that because 9/10 times it's me responding to something he said while imitating Vegeta.

Although sometimes I end up going from a Vegeta to an Arnold Schwarzenegger...Somehow.

However if you genuinly are trying to imitate Vegeta while being serious then I wouldn't say that's normal and it's really cheesy. I can just imagine your comeback quotes you take from Vegeta, "Sad...For YOOOOOOOOOOOUUUUUU" Aha.

I like Vegeta. He was probably my favorite character although I think they made him pretty useless to DBZ. He doesn't really have any great victories. I don't believe he has actually defeated a main villain before. It would be good if in the newest film thing that they make it that he beats Frieza. If not then I probably won't be that impressed by it.

Anyway. If you're being serious when quoting him then I wouldn't say it's normal and definitely not as cool as you may think it is. If, like me, you do it for jokes and giggles, then I would say it's normal to imitate characters, even if it's Vegeta.

I wouldn't say Vegeta is someone you should want to be, though. He's shown time and time again he's too arrogant for his own good which has cost him wins, and overall he's pretty douchey.

He has never beaten a main villain.

I've read a few things about the new movie a while back, akira said two things. One, he has plans for this movie to incorporate something from his manga days and the other is that vegeta will win. I really hope vegeta beats frieza since he was the obvious choice, but my whole opinion is that he never did win because akira pretty much wanted to end the series at each saga, and you don't let the anti hero beat the final boss, but other say that's a stupid claim.

I do it to be funny and serious
