Is it normal to remember being someone else?

Is it normal to remember being someone else? Or maybe "remembering" isn't the right word. I don't actually have any memories of being anyone but myself. It's more like an intuitive feeling that I wasnt always "this" me, but a different me... In Buddhism, it is believed that past lives are real. That when you die, you become another reincarnation of yourself and that only your mind, or consciousness, follows you through your lives. I've always had an uncanny affinity for Japanese culture, even as a young child. I believe that it means I was Japanese in a past life. I just know it. Does that make sense? lol.

I believed some of this theory. There have been many times when I wondered if my fascination with certain things; certain types of people and an odd fascination/somewhat of an unsaid bond regarding their lifestyle. Possible it had to do with past experiences that I have never had in this life. But could have in the past? I've wondered this too, basically.

  • I dont remember my past lives but i do have memories that arent mine and i believe i have astral projected into others. I dont think there is a past or future the way most people think or ot. It just is and we precieve things in order because that is all our simple minds make since of it.

I believe in past lives, I've been fascinated with Ireland since I was a small child, something about everything Irish feels like home, like a memory that's just beyond recall.
I also have met several people whom I've known in devious lives, and they acknowledged it as well. The first one, I felt it but didn't say anything (kind of a hard thing to tell someone!) and the second day I knew him he said, "This may sound weird but I'm almost positive I knew you in a past life!"
Also I think I was a guy in most of my past lives, I'm a woman but I don't understand other women at all. I keep trying, and I want to get along with them, but I naturally get along with guys better. I'm straight, and not butch at all, so it's really frustrating. Definitely feels like this is the first time I've ever been female. Exactly like a guys brain dumped into a female body. Sexually attracted to guys, but otherwise masculine brain.
You're normal, look into past life regression, that may help you uncover past life information.

I can't say that I believe it, but I've been told I've got an "old soul" by quite a few people, including a 74 year old woman. If I did have a previous life, it was as a black man that suffered much hardship throughout his lifetime. My musical roots began in the Mississippi Deltas, and hearing the raw passionate sound of delta blues was what made me pursue music in the first place.

Aside from that, I held a job for three years in the heart of Atlanta, and my coworkers were about 95% black. Never did any of them reject me, and on countless occasions I was either accepted into the black microcosm of the workplace (400+ employees on my shift, package sorting facility). Two quotes from my time at that job. "Man, you the blackest white person I know." (which I heard quite a few times). And "Damn Larry, not many of your kind can sing but you can blow those pipes. I love it dawg!"

Sidenote, Larry was my given nickname because I had a habit of throwing or flinging small packages precisely and safely into perfect spots for them to fit, ala Larry Bird the basketball player.

And before I get slammed with abrasive comments labeling me a racist, don't bother. I love people of all ethnic backgrounds and hold no prejudice against any group of people, I'm simply speaking from my own experiences.

I remember seeing some documentary on that. Not sure what I believe, but it is creepily fascinating.

I find it interesting how some choose their religion to justify their beliefs. Hindus also believe in reincarnation, but do not hold to successive incarnations of the same person, or even the same species. What if, in a past life, you were indeed Japanese but not a person, but instead let's say an ant. Would that make you a Hindu, instead of a Buddhist?
Each is equally possible, depending on which religion one chooses.

Who is this "one" you speak of?

Honestly I don't want to bash your beliefs, so I won't. However, I'm approaching this question with a bit of skepticism, since I've never actually heard of someone feeling that they had some connection to a past life. If you feel that perhaps you were Japanese in a past life then so be it. This does seem a bit abnormal, but I don't really have much to offer advice-wise. Just enjoy this life I guess, do what makes you happy and what feels right to you.

This happens and is common with certain people; whom are intuitive..like the OP said. I've felt this many times, before.

Can you try explaining the feeling you get? I want to understand.

Sometimes it's dejavu-like. But mostly an intense feeling like "I've been you" -- or a connection to marines/army lifestyle, although I've never been in, nor considered that as an option or career-path in this life. The same happens a lot. With certain troubled souls, that can be relative to "our" exact struggles.

However the marine/army etc is a fascinating thing for me, like I said, it is as if I was there and get chills and dejavu a lot.. When hearing their stories and watching docs (I've seen every war movie there is) I can't explain it, it's as if I was "this person"... In a past life, that is. It's very intense and the affinity, like you describe is the same.

That's really interesting. I've never heard of something like that, but I find that intensely interesting.

Does that ever cause any conflict with your daily life? Like perhaps it feels like you should be pursuing something in the marine field or is it simply an intense passing thought?

Funny you say that, I actually have considered it. I am currently a personal trainer. I've tested if (physically) I could pass the vigorous training and know it's feasible, if I wanted to. I guess it could be possible, it's not something I've scratched off my list yet. That or LE/helping troubled youth. Studying psychology has been my main focus in life. I've found training to hold back a "bigger picture" and usually end up pulling out a certain therapy-like element for whomever I train.

Mentally, it (Marines etc) could actually be good for me. However it's as if I'm scared of what I see and hear. As if "I've done that". It's very odd.

In your experiences, do you feel similar? It's said you live until you've reached serenity and fully learn and accomplish your purpose. Like you've said, certain belief is that it's endless.
