Is it normal to roleplay online narratives with strangers?

So I've been roleplaying narratively online for a few years now but my family thinks it's weird. I'd like to know if it's normal because people are saying it's not.

            I guess that makes sense. Especially if you're a kid. Otherwise I don't feel like it's really mature or normal, but I am not really entitled to give a vote on that.
