One of my neighbors does this and also my father-in-law. They are too lazy to pick up their dogs poop so they run it over when they cut the grass and that "solves" the problem! Isnt that just spreading small particles of poop?! In winter they just let the poop lay there. Is this common, I think its nasty?
The stuff makes great fertilizer, why wouldn't you want to spread it around your lawn? Hell, people pay big bucks for natural fertilizers, but the dog shit is free, so? Perhaps if one wanted to lay out on the lawn, it might be best not to fertilize often, but you made no mention of spending time on the lawn.
I'm guessing you live in the city or suburbs. It might seem reasonable to pick up poop in your location. When I had small children, I used to do that myself. I live in a rural area and between the deer shit, bear shit, and dog shit, it would be hard to keep up with on the acre I mow. I just drive over it with the lawn tractor and it all goes away. Magic! It breaks down pretty quickly once it is small pieces and spread out. Only takes about a week and there is no evidence it was ever there.
I don't like because my little niece got impetigo from using a water slide in the summer, probably because of all the dog poop all over the place and nasty germs.
I like to eat dog poop sometimes, its the best when it is still steaming
