Is it normal to stop listening to a band over this? i miss listening to them

In 2017 it was revealed that Jesse frontman of Brand New had slept with underage fans in his early 20s. I had huge love for this band they were in my top 3 I understood he's far from perfect because many lyrics talk about how he sees himself as a bad person but it's emo and I assumed he probably struggles with mental health. I hope the allegations wasnt true then he posted an apology so that means he admitted it I also thought the apology was insincere because he didnt show any sympathy he just talked about his issues. I've now decided to look for proof but I havent gotten very far I saw some comments from people saying that the girl who was the main victim and claimed he groomed her from when she was underage posted proof of their first interactions that she has posted was from when she was 18/19 though...And apparently she has been going crazy on social media, has mental problems and had "made it her mission" to sleep with bandmembers. I think bandmembers sleep with young groupies because they probably dont ask for IDs and I mean who wouldnt claim to be older than you are if you had the opportunity to sleep with your idol.. Let's be real... But grooming is calculated and done over several years. That's worse.

From the stuff I found screenshots etc main victim has made contradicting statements.She's posted their lyrics years later and stuff like "im afraid we'll never be together now" after coming out with the allegations stuff she's deleted since it seems.And according to an old friend of hers she slept with many bandmembers and lied about her age?

I feel I should never listen to them again tho.Sometimes it makes me feel sad I cant listen to a song I loved so much.Ive tried many times to find bands who sound like them and who writes like Jesse but I cant.A while back I found /1/ song by a band I like that sounded like a Brand New-song and im still happy.

    If you really like the music you could just listen to pirated versions so it doesn’t support the artist

      That’s what I do, Marilyn Manson is clearly a dodgy person irl but his songs have helped me so I just don’t go to his concerts or buy his music, I got his autobiography from the library to avoid paying for it too.

          Nothing has been proven but in his book he wrote about how he would sexually degrade fans including covering a deaf girl in meat and getting his band mate to urinate on her whilst screaming that she was a whore. He also wanted to murder a girl but chickened out when a scary black guy chased him out of the neighbourhood. There have also been accusations that he abused his ex-girlfriend Evan Rachael Wood, these are currently unconfirmed but after reading his autobiography and hearing about his fantasy of killing her I don’t think it’s much of a stretch.

          He wasn’t the kid on the Wonder Years though.

              There is debate over how much of what is described in his book actually happened and how much is exaggerated for shock value, but I agree that even a tamer version of the events described is messed up.

      Does listening on youtube support them? I guess it does.Im not sure how these things work.Ive really considered listening again and now I feel kinda bad ive been looking into this all day trying to figure out if whats hes been alleged of is really true or not...

    I was talking about a genre once with someone and was like I like (dont even remember) and instantly they were like so you support forced prostition!? I was like the fug? All I said was I enjoy their music holy fuck.

    Point being dont let someone's personal actions stop you from enjoying something you always have enjoyed especially if the supposed crime is something you've never heard of them doing before

    How under age and how early 20s? If we're talking like 17 and 21 I really don't give a shit anymore than 21 and 26. 16 and 25 kind of shit? Getting a little weird.

      He was allegedly 23 and the 2 girls were 15.
      In my country that's legal, actually. Age of consent is 15 years old but not in the US of course.
      However it turns out one of the girls was actually a bit older, 17 I think, and was dating him but she was mad he wouldn't commit and leaked his nudes. She also broke with him once but when he said she can't hang out with him backstage she took him back, so... But the other girl was 15 and they exchanged nudes and he apparently "made her watch him masturbate on skype". She has presented 0 evidence as she "doesn't feel like getting it" but most people argue that since he hasn't denied any allegations in his official statement it's true. In the statement he admitted to sex addiction and cheating on his wife and he was getting help years before the allegations came out. This happened 20 years ago. That's all I know from what i've digged up.

    You have to separate the music from the artist. Michael Jackson did horrible yhings, but we still praise his music ( maybe its different cause he’s dead).

    I think musicians or actors, or anyone in the entertainment industry for that matter, shouldn't have their work removed because they did something bad, they just shouldn’t get to profit off of it. Or at least have it donated or something.

    Yeah its difficult to divide between art and the artist. I'm always a firm believer that once the art has left the artist's mind, it is not its own entity. I absolutely love Rosemary's Baby but I understand that roman Polanski is a terrible person. As some people have stated earlier in this post piracy is a way to enjoy the art without supporting the artist directly.

    This post reminded me of when I pirated a bunch of Scars On Broadway songs that I enjoyed even though there were lots of controversies of Daron Malakian ( a dude who is also a member of System Of A Down ), where he stated that he was saddened by Charles Manson's death.

    I have no experience of a band I like doing such a thing, but I stayed subscribed to ProJared through the whole pedophile thing. I say, why stop watching someone's content because of something they did that's unrelated to said content? If they change the content, and you don't like it, then whatever, but if they don't change their content, and people just alledge (or prove) something about their personal life, then why stop watching? You're not supporting them for their negative actions; you are supporting them for their positive ones.

      True though I wouldnt support a youtuber especially if I had to keep seeing their face music I can just listen to and luckily it's the whole bands creation not just 1 person alone.

    I still listen to Gary Glitter. I don't condone what he did but I still like his music and his music has not changed in any way since his crimes came to light. I don't pay for it so I'm not supporting him.

    I wouldn't lose much sleep over this.

    Don't know who that is but that 100% is horrible.

    From what I've gathered about the band Brand New, they were a band from the 2000's who've split up 2018 ( not too long ago. )

      Yes the allegations came out late 2017. I think the band was gonna split anyway but they were also forced to after the allegations since they got cancelled. The two girls who came out with allegations are both band photographers and according to some who are familiar with those girls they have both been involved with Jesse and that they used their status as photographers to get close to band members. One of the girls dated Jesse on and off and released revenge porn of him years before accusing him. Its very hard to find solid proof...Its all a bunch of speculation, people who say they knew those girls because they were also involved in that scene and very flimsy proof. Mostly its just words. I never looked deeper into the story back then because I felt too upset but now that I am it all seems very unclear.
