Is it normal to stop watching a movie because of its woke agenda

I was a cinephile for many years and during that time most of the films I watched were from the 20th century, many prior to 1990 because I could just view it as a story and even if it was commenting on some societal issue of the time in many occasions I was oblivious to it. I just wanted escapism into the story and I hated whenever I felt like something was preaching to me or trying to manipulate me.

I havent watched a movie or tv or anything that was made after like 2008. Its all propaganda. The founder of netflix's uncle is edward bernay who was a jew who created modern propaganda in America. He was behind some feminist bullshit to get women to smoke to feel liberated so his tabacco shares would go up. Bunch of weird old money elitists running hollywood and all those media companies. Its poison on your mind.

Even if I agree with the message it gets annoying. Like randomly adding in a moment where your black main character experiences racism even though it's completely irrelevant to the plot. It comes off as just wanting someone to praise you for "being so woke and progressive".

I don't blame you. It's so unnecessary, condescending (like they feel we need them to push an agenda on us as if we can't make up our own minds about things 🙄), and always feels forced and doesn't fit in the script smoothly. It's way too obvious and makes the movie much less enjoyable.

I also don't get how some of the modern movies/TV shows I've seen have characters of a minority race and/or sexuality in which one or both of those things are their entire identity (which is heavily based on racial/sexual stereotypes) rather than just a trait they happen to possess. It's like the characters were written with only that one thing about them in mind (and they probably unfortunately were). What's wrong with having a minority character that has a personality and identity outside of their race or sexuality?

Every movie probably does this to some extent. I challenge you to name one that hasn't.

People who whine about woke shit in media are the same people who call others "snowflakes" for not liking to see racist or sexist stuff in films.

Yes, it's normal. No one wants to be moralized while watching a movie. Also, you paid for entertainment, not propaganda.

That's the reason I don't like most movies made after 2010.

Depends on the agenda. I usually only care about narrative quality and consistency. If a story was written with a specific agenda in mind, woke or not, it usually ends up being a stupid story that makes no sense.

That said, even if the story would otherwise be solid, when a character says something I fundamentally disagree with, and they're not the villain, and multiple characters treat it as if it's unquestioned truth, I'm quick to detach. The whole movie suddenly feels as if it has no self awareness in that case.

And what bothers me more about it is that it's not that hard to push an ideal without turning people into plastic. Just introduce the idea and have it bounce naturally off of other people. Let them make arguments and counterpoints... and don't make every character that disagrees an antagonist. Then instead of this being "the director of this movie thinks I'm a bad person if I don't support dejected comedians", it can instead become "the character within this universe strongly believes in supporting dejected comedians."

It's a big difference. I can pass by a woke/anti-woke agenda if I think "I don't like this facet of this character, but it's not like the whole story revolves around it." It will lessen my enjoyment of the movie, but it's better than being so preoccupied with the idea you're trying to push that I can't continue watching. "Hey, that's an inaccurate portrayal of comedians! Fuck this movie."
