Is it normal to take more than 4 years to graduate from college?

I don't just mean like maybe 5 years or even 6.. I started junior college in 2010. It was supposed to be to do my first two (maybe even 3) years to get an AA then transfer to a university for a BA. I'm starting year 5 of my 2-3 year plan. I probably won't graduate with an AA until this next summer. So more than likely I wouldn't get my BA until another 2-3 years. That's like 7-8 years to get a BA. I never changed majors (Criminology and Psychology), but I did take two semesters off. Still, is it normal to take this long to get a BA or am I just stupid? Okay, no need to say I am stupid if you think so, lol but I would like to know if anyone has had or is having this problem....

Isn't that a natural result of taking semesters off?

    • Yea, but it's also because of financial situations and the occasional failed course.. I was just wondering how normal it is to see what my chance of even finishing is..

Persistance pays off. Keep going and you'll pass.

It's long, but not unheard of. I'm probably going to take 4 1/2 or 5 years by the time I'm done with the degree I'm working on.

I go to college in California. In all honesty it seems like they don't want you to graduate. They don't offer enough classes which causes students to not get the required classes they need to take. Less than half graduate in four years. It's just regular for most to graduate in 5 or even 6 years thanks to the crap system.

Are you having difficulty with focusing or memory?

It really depends on how many classes you are taking. If you only take one or two classes a semester, it will take you a while.

It's long. I still have one year to complete my BCom but I started it last year so I won't complain.

It should take 3 years to complete an undergraduate degree. I know quite a lot of people who failed the first or second year and had to retake it however I'm fairly certain student loans only cover 4 years of tuition over here in England so most people are on a time limit and cannot keep retaking years if they fail. Plus we were not allowed to retake the final year so if you failed that you were only awarded a diploma.
