Is it normal to take your family member as a plus one?

Seeing as I don't have anyone else, I asked my mother to take me to a fundraising graduation dinner. Friends and family were encouraged to attend, and seeing as my mother is the only one available to transport me, I asked her to come along. I expect normally, people would bring their friend or sibling to the event. I only hope it won't be awkward for her if no parents turn up or if she is seated among the youth. Atleast she will enjoy the free dinner?

I think any Mom would love that. Even if she's the only parent there, just the fact you wanted her to be with you probably means more to her than you know.

Nothing wrong with it, especially if it's an event that you wont'be at very long. I went to a wedding reception with my older sister one time (her friend, not mine) as her plus-one. We ate, chatted with people at the table, did the toast, and left. May have been there an hour and a half. Was fun, and I ate for free.

We have this place near our house that's usually packed with people in line, it's called KC's and it's the best chipper I've ever been to.

My mom really enjoyed the event! There were quite a few parents around, who joined us at the table. She actually found the event fun, as she hadn't been out in a while. I'm really glad she came :)
