Is it normal to think technology is making people lazier and fatter

back in the old days people didn't have technology so they had to do everything for themselves. as a result people got exercise just from doing everyday chores and things like that. their lifestyles were not sedentary like in modern day and they didn't have much time or reason to sit around and waste time on the computer. they literally had to do farm work and hard manual labor just to survive. it was a difficult life but people were a lot more healthier, both physically and mentally because they were outdoors and more connected to nature.

I agree with you completely. I also believe technology will be the death of the human race as we know it. The sedentary existence of so many these days, spending 8+ hours in a cubicle, evenings spent watching TV or sitting at the computer, has got to be terribly unhealthy. On the other hand, how healthy can it be to exercise; walk, run, skate or ride a bike alongside vehicles spewing deadly poisons into the air?
Eating healthy is economically beyond so many in the US today. Fast food is not only convenient, it is affordable. When you are hungry, but nearly broke, how many other choices are available?
Perhaps Soylent Green is indeed in our future.

yes and no. while people were on average stronger and more fit, they're were a lot less people around and more people died at a young age. in the 1800s, you were an old man by the time you reached your thirties. many people were skinny but not already fit. many were actually suffering from malnutrition.

yes work and exercise is good for you, but overworking leaves you exhausted and more likely to get sick. and hospitals were crude, not like now.

there's a fine line between working at a healthy pace and working yourself to death.

they're have always been lazy people, its just the ones without a ton of money died.

Go to any period in time and chances are, you will run into people who think the current technology is making people lazier. i watched 50s tv and read 20s books/magazines where someone was complaining how todays technology was spoiling the youth.

Now, they're more people around thanks to our advanced medical practices so therefore, more lazy people.

on the opposite side of the coin, it hasn't stopped some people from overworking themselves, but now we can do more before we overwork
    ourselves.

theres truth to that, but mostly because there's more people around, and therefore, more lazy people. and you don't have to be rich anymore to be able to sit on you ass.

You take the good, you take the bad, you take them both and there you have, the facts of life.

My favorite are the people who driver to the gym to run on a treadmill and not talk to anyone. You are fooling yourself if you think that is healthy.

Yeah and all those kids addicted to video games. I sometimes wonder in 20 years if they'll look back and think "boy I wasted my youth."

I agree. It seems like technology has brought out some of the worse qualities in us humans. Personal forms of communication, like talking in person, were important. People used to write/type letters and they were cherished. Sure, technology has had many benefits, but most humans (myself included, at times) don't know moderation. So much of us are missing out of the beauty of existing and the natural world. It is a tragedy.
