Is it normal to think that the nasa shuttle launch is a giant money grab?

I was suppose to go and see the April 19th launch but surprise, surprise they changed the date by 10days. This time it’s because of Russia…. (some bad words) I’m sorry but they knew the date so why can’t the sent there precious experiment after… there are probably thousands of people now scrambling to make last min changes to their plans because they pushed the damn thing back 10 days! I’m paying for my dad and I to go down and I just can afford the fees to change the trip so in the end we will go to the base and spend waaaaayyyy more money then what we planned on….. just so they can move it again on the 29th and sucker more people in??... sorry for the rant I’m kinda mad but does anyone out there think I’m normal for feeling this way?? And do you think NASA is ripping people off??

  • Well. Some people would probably pay to see another "Challenger" disaster, but, not I. For once, I agree with Valkeer in that there is probably a very good reason for the delay.

  • NASA doesn't exist to entertain you sport.

They are a serious organization and if they put off a launch date it's for a very good reason.

I'm sorry you've been inconvenienced but NASA aren't Disney. Your entertainment is a secondary (or tertiary) concern to their main business, as opposed to being their main business.

The Russian and American space programmes are something that have long fascinated me, and I can say that launch dates change at the drop of a hat for a multitude of reasons. In fact, the Americans would have had the first man in space were it not for Von Braun calling for extra testing and another unmanned launch. If NASA would changes the dates even when something as prestigious as having the first man in space is involved, I'm sure they'd risk upsetting a few spectators.

As I said at the start of this, I'm sorry you've been inconvenienced and I'm sure this is important to you, but this is the real world.

How much is it to go down there? Plus i think NASA have bigger things to worry about than pissing a few spectators off.

Maybe their reason to postpone the launch was due to safely/technical issues - If something was to fail it could actually cost more to resolve.

you don't this NASA is making money from all the people who have already paid to go there so now there going to do a tour? ahaha right... i bet they will make 10,000 ez... if not more (im betting more) let alone the boost to the local economy... I'm not saying its a conspiracy or anything but I do find it kinda suspicious that you have all these smart people running this and they run into scheduling problems 2 weeks out? AHAHA not so smart now are they

It costs $10,000 for an astronaut to scratch his balls. That's less than pocket change for NASA.

How is NASA profiting from this? If anything it's transportation and hotel companies.

And no, spectators are not important in the big scheme of things. That shuttle and the mission cost them millions. They're not going to rush things out of fear that they'll inconvenience a few people.
