Is it normal to think this is punishment and not a reward?

When I was a kid our school once had some poetry writing contest and one of the prizes was you got to have lunch with the principal and vp. I remember my dad reading about it in the school news letter and saying in a proud voice, "I wonder if *I* have a chance to win?" Mom was laughing but I was mortified. He was totally joking but still the thought was uncomfy.

I guess shit like that is fairly common, I mean contests where students compete for the honor to have lunch with the damned principal.

And THEN where I work they used to have contests and the winner would get to have lunch with a manager of their choice. OOOHHH well THAT sounds... stuffy.

Especially though for kids, doesn't it seem like this would be more of a PUNISHMENT than a reward? Like having lunch with the one(s) in charge? My immediate supervisor is a younger "cool" type, younger than me but it would still feel strange.

    • Ha ha ha ha, I wasn't a hoodlum but no, poetry wasn't my thing. At the time I didn't know what a poem even really was.
Usually when I had the luxury of spending quality time in the principal's office, it was because I got into another "physical altercation".

Yeah it does sound like a pointless reward. Free pizza or something else delicious would be a better reward.

I wanted pizza today, but I had to settle for a turkey sandwich instead.

True, I can just imagine all the nervousness and stuffs you had to go through. Glad those days ended long ago for me.

That is probably the result of having lunch with the principal.

It would be coolest if I could meet Mike Tyson's pigeons.

Yep, Mike Tyson was into pigeons before he was into fighting.

That's basically how Iron Mike got into fighting. Some local bully caught one of his birds, and killed it with his bare hands to to mess with Mike, and then Iron Mike beat the Hell out of that piece of shit, sorry ass muthafucka!

I hate people who hurt animals!
