Is it normal to think you can avoid using school bathrooms for 12 years?

Life will be pretty tough for someone with that sort of hang up. Public bathrooms aren't necessarily pleasant, but at times certainly convenient. I don't think her mom is doing her any favors instilling this in her child. I don't believe it's terribly healthy, either.

I used to avoid public bathrooms, particularly at school. Actually I don't think I ever used the school/college toilets either. I know it's not healthy, but your bladder kind of get's used to it after you've been doing it for so many years.

There's different reasons people don't like using the toilets. I always used to tell people it was because the toilets were disgusting, but in fact the real reason was because I was self conscious of the peeing sound. Silly, I know. But there you go.

If you're really that concerned, talk to her about it. You never know, but maybe there is more to it than you think.

Very normal. I'm a guy, so it doesn't matter. I just need something to pee in. Even if it's a disgusting toilet, I don't have to touch it. For a girl - I understand.

Hated my school's toilets too.

In 12 years I did probably once each year.
Its a matter of discipline. I was also lucky to live half hour walking distance from school.

I can't use public loos either. My reasons are partially due to a phobia that started when I was a child... The other parts are: lack of privacy (There's a serious design flaw in most if not all of American public loos.), fear of diseases, lack of cleanliness, etc. Have you eve been inside a public loo meant go females? It's like a horror story that takes place on the war front. Absolutely disgusting! Blood smears, pads stuck in the toilet, trash cans filled to the brim and overflowing onto the floor with pads, shit smears on the baby changing table and in other areas, a foul and hellish stench; a stench so bad that it could smelled strongly outside of the bathroom, etc.

Sometimes it's painful to hold it in. Public restrooms aren't the cleanest places but you will have to use one sooner or later.

Pretty normal. I never use public bathrooms, especially school bathrooms. Mainly because they smell horrendous and are very germy.

this may be a bit off subject but i meet my best friend ever in our elementry school bathroom he was hacking mucous into the urinal i asked him if he was ok he turned around still had a bunch of it on his face wich caused me to vomit all over the floor we spent an hour in the nurses office laughing about it and we have been really good friends ever since this was about 10 years ago

my school had an outhouse

I avoided it as far as possible, but I had to give in to my urges a few times.

I've never used a school bathroom since about 2nd grade. but I'm told it's not normal. I only pee like once or twice a day, that's how I've always been, but i guess most people can't do that so it's not normal for the girl if she is uncomfortable with it
