Is it normal to think you can avoid using school bathrooms for 12 years?
Once a week or so a colleague of mine gets stuck on a business trip and asks me to pick her 9-year-old daughter up at school. The girl also stays with me a few times a year when her mom is at trade shows. The problem, though, is that four out of five times, the girl is upset when I reach her school and in discomfort because she has been holding her pee or crap for much of the day. She goes to a nice, large suburban grade school, but consistently says the bathrooms suck. Furthermore, her mom has told her she hated school toilets too but managed to graduate from high school without EVER having used the bathroom at school. I don't think that's realistic and it sends a totally dangerous message to a fourth grader.
