Is it normal to use the handicapped public stall (when you're not handicapped)?

I don't know if this is true for other countries, but in the U.S., public restrooms usually have one large stall meant for handicapped people along with the regular sized (which is pretty cramped in my opinion) stalls. For me, if the restroom is empty, then every once in a while I will just use the handicapped stall because it just feels more comfortable to do my business in a more spacious area. No, I'm not claustrophobic. I often use the regular sized stalls too (if I even use the public restroom at all).

Anyways, the reason why I wonder if this is normal is because in fourth grade, I moved to Arizona and at the school I went to, nobody used the stall and you were deemed "retarded" by your peers if you did. Even when the restroom was full and there was a line, the handicapped stall was basically taboo. However, when I moved to Colorado, I sometimes see people using the handicapped stall especially when the restroom is crowded.

So, my question is: Where you live, is it normal for non-handicapped people to use the handicapped restroom stall?

I use handicap stalls....I've never even considered it "wrong"
I treat everyone equal. It's a public restroom. The handicap can wait their turn like everyone else.

  • At my university I think that some of the people who get around in wheelchairs have become a bit pissed off with how often walking people are using them. Someone keeps posting angry signs on the doors and by the mirror, trying to deter walking people from using it.

My theory is it's everyone's favourite stall for taking a shit; every time I go into the washroom, there's a potent stench coming from that stall. hehehe

      To OP

There's more room in those stalls. There's usually a lounge in that stall. I have enough room to really bare down and powerdump.

I've never given it a second thought... the retarded can poop in their chair. Don't they have someone to empty their diapers?

You're allowed to use any stall you please as long as a handicapped person isn't before you. I remember using a handicap stall at the mall several years ago when it was full so that was my only option and when I got out, I had a handicap woman in a wheel chair give me a look. I never understood that as I was there before her and it was the only stall out of 10 open to use. I couldn't just hold in my business (it was bad) and not go just incase this woman decided to show up. I wasn't even in there 30 seconds and she's groaning at me with her eyes wide, it sickened me.

You're allowed to use it and that's odd those children thought it strange to use the handicap stall as in my high school years, people mostly used that one as it had more space and you couldn't fall in the toilet just by walking in the stall.

Well, I'm a girl, but I wonder if gender makes a difference. Judging from the responses so far, I don't think it does.

Regular stalls are too cramped for my liking.

Bring a red carpet into the handicap stall to place on the floor before you pull down your pants. It ups the pleasure of the whole experience.
