Is it normal to want a pet bear

I watched Marty Stouffers wild america as a kid and he raised the bear. Let it go. Went back years later and they were best pals still. Even got to meet the family. So worth it! I would love to have a free range pet bear. Nothing like loyalty and nobody gonna rob you if you have a pet bear.

Go watch Grizzly Man. That's what really happens when you live with bears.

It's never safe lol. You can not tame a wild apex predator & honestly it's irresponsible.

If you CARE about bears for real, observe them from a distance & do not interfere. Feeding them makes them more likely to approach humans, which means that they are more likey to starve in the wild (due to dependence on easy food sources) or more likely to wander up to campsites looking for food...where they get put down by park rangers for being a threat to humans.

If you CARE about bears, contribute to conservation & volunteer to clean up parks.

They are wild animals that belong in the wild. That is what is best for them. If you CARE about animals, you should put their needs above your desire 4 a cool pet.

I wouldn't feed my bear except as a youngling. I would teach it to fish. I wouldn't cage it I would let it be free. BUT if he comes back that just means he loves me

Oh my god, NO, dude...i'm only relpying to you at this point because i love animals.

First of all, if you even approach a baby bear you will get mauled period.

Second of all, you are not going to teach a bear fuck all & you will do more harm than good.

Third, if you teach a baby bear (assuming you can approach one without getting eviscerated) that it's ok to get any where near humans it will 100% get euthanized or shot in the face for approaching campsites.

Stop being so fucking selfish!!! It is not best for the bears to be anywhere near trash littering, anthropomorphizing, irresponsible, panicky, nature destroying humans.

If ypu love bears, do something useful ffs!!! Donate your time or money towards conservation & stop fucking with them!

I wouldn't actually get a bear but like. It is possible and it can be safe. I don't mean stealing a baby by the way. I'm talking about like a baby that was found and the mother died. Again I'd never do it. But it is possible. Again you sacrifice alot. Having a family. Friends etc. And I'm not crazy it is very dangerous.

It wasn't just a movie, it actually happened. A pack of them snatched a baby from a woman's house and dragged it into the woods and ate it. I believe she'd left the window open.

Tbf to dingoes though this isn't normal behaviour. They are wild and must be treated with caution, but I've eaten plenty of meals at campsites and by the side of the road and some dingoes have showed up and nothing really happens. I just ignore them usually.

Some people over here even keep them as pets.

Do you mean Azaria Chamberlain? Or a different case?

Azaria was an almost 9wk old baby who was taken from the family tent while camping near Uluru. The movie with Meryl Streep was about that. There was also an Aussie two part telemovie in the 2010s.

            https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_of_Azaria_Chamberlain

The problem with dingoes is that those in tourist areas have lost their fear of humans...they get too close and it ends in attacks. Same as any wild animals, when we force ourselves on them in their territory.

It happened in Uluru so yeah, must be her. But I thought it was a holiday cabin rather than a tent? I guess people mythologise this stuff.

I've been to someone's house before and they had 2 dingoes as pets. They were alright with me because the woman acknowledged me as a friend but it was a bit nerve wracking. And I used to work at a dog kennels that had rescued some unhousable aggressive dogs from being put down, so I'm pretty confident with dangerous dogs. The dingoes just stared at me, like they were waiting for me to fuck up so they could eat me lol. She can't move house apparently because dingoes go nuts if they are forced into a new territory?! The whole thing sounds way more trouble than it's worth to be honest. Although tbf that woman probably has never been robbed.

Or an animal to have a bad day, if my dog bites me, I can snack it on the head. A bear? Hell if it tried swiping at me I'm grabbing a gun and putting it down. Make a rug out of it.

wild animals belong in the wild. the only time i'd find keeping an exotic animal acceptable is if it has no chance of survival if released, such as a permanent health problems or the animal is crippled. even then the animal shouldn't be treated as a pet, it should be allowed to roam freely in a large captive environment with as much enrichment as possible.

I hope my neighbor doesn't read this forum.
He already has a kennel of like 6 dogs, 4 huge and two small. In the spring and summer he has some squaking bird he puts outside.

He might be an animal hoarder. Next he would want a bear, horses, Llamas, gooses, geeses, and it would be Noah's house before all was said and done.

I'd like a pet panther. I wouldn't actually get one though because it would probably kill me. So as long as it stays as a fantasy I'd say this is normal.
