It's so common as to be normal, but it's also totally pointless: why waste energy on things you can't control?
I like nikkiclaire's suggestion: as I don't believe in any gods or higher powers, I use it as a statement rather than a prayer, as in: I have the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, I have the courage to change the things I can and I have the wisdom to know the difference.
If you can think of any single thing in the entire history of the world that's ever bee changed for the better by worrying about it, then go ahead, waste your life worrying.
Another idea is to write yourself a list of things you do want to change that you do have control over and read it out loud to yourself last thing at night and first thing in the morning: when worrying thoughts come into your head check over your list again and replace the worrying thoughts with the new ones.
Good luck! Worrying is a self-destructive habit, but it is possible to change it to something positive, I promise, and it's well worth getting rid of it.
Concentrate on what you can control, the rest will happen no matter what, but you can lessen the impact it has on you. Know that you’re in control of that too, so you have some control even over the uncontrollable.
