Is it normal whenever i cut my nails my fingers hurt?

My fingers hurt a lot right at the tips from where my nails come out whenever I cut my nails. The pain continues for two or three days till they grow a bit.
I have to keep them very short or I won't be allowed at physical training.

    That only happens when you cut them too short. Try to keep them a bit longer.

    Try to cut them above the first knuckle and use nail clippers, not the circular saw.
