Inheritance tax is unethical

I understand the argument behind having an inheritance tax. But if you really break it down it is not right. Because if you work your whole life to save that money for your kids it should be your liberty to give it to them for the following reasons.

#1: The money is already taxed. You already paid income tax on that money

#2: If that income is ever spent by your kids it is taxed by sales tax anyway

#3: Its not fair and the government is supposed to work for the people

#4: The argument for it is purely based on envy

“There is no federal inheritance tax, but there is a federal estate tax. In 2022, federal estate tax generally applies to assets over $12.06 million, and the estate tax rate ranges from 18% to 40%.”

    Fair enough.

I wasn't even aware this was a thing. Buut to be fair, I haven't had any relatives die yet. Regardless I think its outright evil for taxes to be done on that. Especially when it will already be an emotional time for the family. I think that whoever decided that this was a thing is unethical and needs to get their morals sorted

I think we can all agree that inheritance taxes are evil, for sure. But the question then becomes, where SHOULD the money go?

Obviously it shouldn’t go to the kids, since they didn’t do jack squat to earn the money, so giving it to them would be no different than giving taxpayer money to people who don’t work, which we all know how wrong that is.

Maybe it should just be taken out of circulation completely, that would certainly help with all this godawful inflation. Or at least spend it all on the military in order to respect the flag.

    • Why should other people decide what to do with the money you worked for? The money should go to your family. Its the only reasonable thing to do with the money

I've never really thought about it but you've definitely convinced me anyway. Plus not to mention it's just very disrespectful for the government to make money off the death of your loved ones.

I'm not sure about number 4 but other than that I completely agree with you.

    • The argument I hear is basically "some people never have to work and thats wrong." And "people shouldnt be rich for generations"

Its not a practical argument because they dont seem to have an idea what the government is even gonna do with the money.

I guess I would agree with that. Government waste is tremendous. Don't they say the rich are usually broke within three generations? I'm for smaller government when it comes to most issues.

        • Yeah the vast majority unless they're super rich. The first American family that comes to mind that is still filthy rich is the Vanderbilts. The first Vanderbilt built a lot of train stations and hospitals in the 1800s and his family is still rich. They own the biggest mansion in the US still. The waltons will be rich for hundreds of years too. But most yeah.

    I agree with you 100%.

It’s worth mentioning that it goes against the will of the one dying unless they wish the government to take more money away.

I'm in complete agreement with you. Especially for reasons 1 & 2.

    • These days they wanna tax your money 4 or 5 times. Before its over with in some countries already 75%+ of your money is sent to the government. Its a scam.
