Inn i feed my dog live food

i always feed my dog live food like chicken, fish, and mice on top of her kibble. she's a small dog, and she loves chasing mice, and it's interesting to see how she knows exactly what to do when it comes to hunting even though shes a small 10 pound havanese poodle

How do you fit a live chicken in her dog bowl? How does the small dog kill the live chicken? Wouldn't the chicken just keep wandering away?

      That image made me laugh.

Be helluva messy, too. Chickens seem to be mainly feathers, and I can just imagine what the kitchen would be like after the poodle chased down the chicken, cornered it after a lot of squawking and flapping, killed it by ripping out its throat, plucked it, gutted it and ripped it to pieces.

I think we'll stick to dry kibble for our dogs.

No joke, I've seen a chickens spur dogs in the neck on more than one occasion when I was a child. It usually resulted in the dog dying. While chickens can be cowards, some can be pretty aggressive when cornered. It's usually the roosters that are like this, but some hens in flocks without roosters can be this way too.

I hope she's vaccinated and gets regular checkups... Either way you're putting your poor dog at risk for parasites and salmonella just because of your sadistic enjoyment of watching it kill smaller, defenseless animals. Dogs aren't even hunters, cats are. Dogs have been domesticated and should eat dog food, there are raw meat diets but even those are risky and you need to be careful and know exactly what you're feeding your dog with.

In a lot of countries, feeding any animal with any live vertebrate is completely illegal. There could be lots of parasites, diseases and worms in raw meats that modern dogs aren't equipped to handle. If you also haven't deboned small bones, that's an extremely dangerous choking hazard. Chicken bones especially can break into shards and tear up her oesophagus. Please stop doing this.

Animals should only kill other animals to eat if they are out in the wild. Please feed your dog dog food.

Yeah, no... Not a brilliant idea.

There are very good reasons meat is normally cooked before it's eaten. Obviously, wild and feral dogs can survive on raw meat from animals they've killed or scavenged, but those dogs tend to be infested with parasites, generally unhealthy and don't live long.

I know there's a very vocal group that promotes raw meat and bones as the only good diet for dogs, but my recollection is that they're talking about meat from cattle, not fish (which can contain parasites in their flesh) or live mice (which can harbour all sorts of weird things in their digestive tract).

I suppose you could buy a live steer for your dog to eat, but I suspect that might be a bit of a challenge for your poodle to take down, and the back yard could get a little stinky before she manages to finish eating it.

Raw chicken can make her sick. Watch if she gets diarrhea. She could get worms too.
