Is 18 too old to start boxing, and want to become pro? iin?

So, i'm 5'11, skinny, not in very good shape, not a whole lot of muscle tone, but a FAIR bit, and i'm wanting to get into boxing. Would be it easy, as now, 18, i'm a bit older, and haven't started out young, to gain experience? Think i should still give it a shot?

Thanks,

  • Do it. Even if you don't advance as far as you'd like, you'd still learn skills that help through every day life...discipline, balance, strength, and basic fighting ability in the event that self-defense becomes necessary.

No, it is for sports like Tennis, basket ball but for stuff like fighting a lot of people start older.

That last comments bullshit i like mma but prefer boxing and mma when you take it to the ground is so technical if you dont no what your doing or how to hold your guard your gonna get seriously hurt also alot more tiering than stand up in my opion
And nope defiantly not my coach always ust to tell me i started to late
But that big black geezer for the uk in the olympics he didnt start till 21 now hes 25 won a gold medal and someone would offer him a pro fight if he wanted it somewhere another guy for the uk who didnt start till 21 and hes ranked 1st in his weight division and i think he won gold to.
Its not about age its about how quickly your brain processes the information and adapt it and also how much determination will power and time you have to put into it never to late bro

  • Boxing is still more disciplined than MMA. UFC fighters forget all training as soon as someone hits the canvas, it's comes down to grind and pound. Horrible.

Boxing is discipline, go for it son!

Boxing is old school, MMA is the shit.
but to answer your question, I think you should do it, but you'll have to give 110% and also to accept that you have an experience disadvantage compared to the other fighters, so you'll have to make up for it in other aspects like(dedication, training time, training intensity, healthy lifestyle, mind-muscle connection).
oh and if by skinny you mean you have small bone structure this is another big disadvantage, so go and lift some heavy ass weights and stop asking questions!

You can knock off about 5 years because your body hasn't been absorbing punches or pivots and bounce on your toes for year. The impact of throwing a punch is jaring to your body as well.
You a probably too old for pro still unless you have the time and money to put into it. I started late myself but was able to train 3hrs a day with one of the top trainers in the business for a year...got a belt for a 10-round smoker fight but eventually had to stop to care for my bf's frail mom. That said, there is nothing like being in the squared circle. Follow your Passion: never be afraid to aim for the moon because even if you miss you will land among the stars.

The way I see it, I don't have a say-so in whether or not you should pursue this interest. If you this is something you really want to do, then give it a shot. You'll never know unless you try it.

It can be a rough lifestyle though. You'll have to train very hard and you'll get hurt in the process too.

    Best of luck.

My motto in life is 'your never to old to try new things'. Give it a go, train hard and good luck!!

You can do anything you want to, all you gotta do is train that extra bit harder well alot more, you must also be able to absorb information, techniques ,punch combinations , foot positioning, dietary requirements, just one thing though it would help if you could actually throw a damaging punch to start with, yes you are getting on a bit in boxing years but hey Carlos maussa didn't start to box professionally till his twenties and became a world champ now he wasn't that good but still he climbed the converted tree, follow hour dreams bud wish you all the best
