I have been terrified of butterflies for as long as I can remember. Not the "Oh no, a butterfly" kind of scared but rather the run-away-in-the-other-direction-in-a-cold-sweat-screaming kind of scared.
If I was forced to enter a butterfly house I think I would pass out.
Is anyone else burdened with this affliction? Or am I just not normal?
dude its not weird. i freaking hate butterflies. underneath those nice colored wings is a beady eyed worm thats hairy and ugly. i cant even imagine being touched by one. im with ya.
i can't even describe how scared i am of butterflies and moths. they're disgusting. they're so weird.. flapping their gross wings around.. ughghgh i'm getting shivers.
my friends went into a butterfly house and tried to make me go in. i sat outside pretty much shaking while they laughed at me...
I am super terrified of butterflies ! whenever I saw em floating around or sticking on the walls I can almost feel their presence in my shirt , freaky ! there's this time when I saw a big butterfly in a room , I didn't enter the specific room for a month , people think I'm faking it , but I am not !
It's normal. I'm terrified of cicadas. They stick onto your shirt and sometimes their legs are still attached to the fabric when someone pulls that bug away. I have a feeling that next time I see one, I'll run away like my life depended on it.
i've never really thought about butterflies being scary, but now that i read your post and think about it, yes they are disgusting insects with pretty wings. people always say " ohhhh look at the pretty butterfly" cause they got real pretty wings, but really underneath they are ugly insects. i'm terrified of roaches though, i mean i totally freak out whenever i see one, i scream and get histerical.
I am scared of those friggin' insects too!! Just knowing how they look up close is what makes me scared of them. *shiver* I think some may look nice, sometimes, but for the most part, I get scared and usually flinch and try to dodge the butterflies I see.
Phobias are completely normal. This isn't that strange. Personally I'm not afraid of butterflies, I realize they are horridly ugly creatures and I sould include them in my bug phobia, but I cannot be frightened of them. this si nomrla and not surprising. People have all kinds of fears. I'v heard much worse. :)
My sister has a butterfly phobia too -.-
She would kill herself 10 times before she went into a butterfly house. Don't worry about it :D
I'm afraid of nearly all insects and arachnids etc., and I went to a butterfly farm once where they had these huge big exotic butterflies and freaked out so much i had to stay in the gift shop all the time >___<
While I don't have this problem, one of my really good friends is terrified of them. She doesn't mind fake ones, she wears butterfly hair clips, has butterfly patterned tops etc. but the other day we were walking and on seeing a butterfly she screamed, grabbed my arm, hid behind me and shrieked "get it away from me, get it away!"
I like their wings but I don't like them without they're wings. It's ugly.
I think it's normal. I used to be afraid of them when I was little, but now since it's been a long time since I've seen once, being that its winter. I just don't like the way I feel their wings will touch my face. I'm not into that at all.

I am more terrified of moths, especially the fat hairy looking ones. At night if they come in the open bedroom window attracted to the light I have to get rid of them before I can go to sleep. I then find it hard to sleep all night in case it comes back or another one comes in. I hate the fast crawling legs and the dusty powdery wings they have. I am getting anxious just thinking about them. sometimes when I look out the window at night I can see them flying towards the street lamp on my corner and even that gets me totally creeped out.

I used to think butterflies and dragonflies too, are ugly creatures because they fly by pass you without you being aware or not. But when I started to understand that they are perfectly harmless insects, i guess it's okay to admire them in front of you.
Oh my god! I thought I was the only one like that! I'm also deathly afraid of moths. Little ones I don't mind as much but yeah I hate those massive ones!
If there's one in a room I scream and ran away and I sometimes get little panic attacks where I breathe heavily. Even pictures of them freak me out!
My family all think I'm loony but they just don't get how scared I really am of them.
If there's one in my room when I'm sleeping I get my dad to get it or I go sleep downstairs.
I even made a Facebook group about it. You should join. It's called I Have Mottephobia! (Fear Of Moths).
Butterfly houses are cool except for the fact that the workers will yell at you if you come within a foot of a butterfly.
with crikets, preymantises and cockcroaches ill hyperventilate, cry, scream, sprint for my life, and lock my self in another room :D sometimes fall on the ground and hide against a wall hahahaha
but i think thats coz my mum chases me with them to...to try and help..?? O.o
so yeah, i agree, maybe a guy in a butterfly suit did do something :/
Ha! my friends think i'm insane becuz im so terrified of butterflies! it's kewl to see that other's are the same becuz ive asked around n everyone i know think butterflies are pretty.
The thing that scared me the most about butterflies is their wings, i hate how they are fluttery and some of the patterns, i think its red admirals or whatever their called, look like eyes, i just think its so goggly(a word i use for things that make me shudder lol) i hate how their wings are so delicate n kind of crumbly. I got literally forced to go through butterfly and insect world once when i was young, it was truelly a horrifying experience and did not cure me of my fear. I even embaress my self sometimes walkign down the street in the summer time and if a butterfly comes i start jumping and jerking about zigzaggin down the street trying to avoid them while the public look at me like i'm insane. I fell of my bike because a butterfly fluttered near me, and have almost done it again many a time.............yeah.....butterflies are the scariest, creepiest, ickyest things ever!!!

Try sleeping in a bed filled with caterpillars, you will overcome your fear of butterflies. Trust me.
Im terrified of them myself too, what really upset me about them is that most people don't realize they eat feces like flies do , and you'd see kids or girls chasing them around or letting them landing on their hands , just ewwwww nope nope nope , not to mention the way they fly makes them look retarded sometimes ,like you can never predict which direction they're heading to exactly they just flap their wings very aggresively without knowing where to go , I can go on and on about them ....
Omg me too i just cant. Butterflies can be very frightening. Idk how to deal w my fear but im so glad that im not alone.
And when you play sports it honestly sucks because if you see one you have to act like you don't see it because everyone is watching you and it's embarrassing. I remember in elementary school during recess no one knew about my fear so when I saw one I just hoped and prayed that it wouldn't come near me. When it starts to get hot outside I literally stop going outside because I don't want to be around them. I tumble (tumbling is like flips and stuff) in my back yard and if I see one land where I'm about to tumble I find another place to go or wait for it to leave. In 2nd grade I sat out with the teacher during recess when it started warming up outside. I've even considered asking my parents to take me to therapy lol.

I've always been VERY terrified of butterflies ever since I was little too. Even seeing a picture of one makes me shudder. I don't know why I'm afraid but yeah, anytime one comes near me a I run for my life. Even at school one time we were all outside and the teacher was talking to us and a butterfly came and I ran! I came back but then two butterflies kept following me and I literally cried. It was awful.
Omg, I am SO afraid of those nasty little creatures!! I once had to go in a butterfly conservatory, but I screamed and was crying, I wanted to pass out 'cause there were so many. You're so not alone. Everyone was staring at me, and it was hard to leave, because my dad was pulling on my arm.

ive been afraid of them since i was young. mi neighbour stole mi bug catcher and filled it will like 70 caterpillarrs. they eventually becmae butterflies and i as scarfed out of mi mind!
Don't worry, you aren't the only one who is afraid of butterflies! I am too, and so is Nicole Kidman. I know exactly where you are coming from, for me... I think it's the way they flutter their wings, and what they look.

me too! once my father dragged me to this glass house with lots of plants... then i found out that it's a place for HUGE butterflies to live. i positively ran screaming out of there.... bottom line: butterflies are GROSS (:
Holy fucking shit arthropods scare me so much. Butterflies and moths I don't mind so long as they are not too big and they don't touch me, but everything else I run away from if possible.

its not a fear you hear about every day, but idk, maybe its normal. i dont like crickets. i mean i literally scream if i c a cricket. i shot one with my old hand gun once. it was very gross. i just cant stand them!!! ugh, creepy...

Whats more i love Juzzy's farts and i think he needs to fart more so that you become slighty dizzy ,and you wont notice the little winged bastards. You can always pop off in his face when he is asleep ,if it makes you feel better.Hugs, Deb Day

ahh all these comments together are hilarious. On a more serious note, June beetles are nasty, nasty insects. I prolly hate them more than I hate spiders. When I was younger someone almost ate a June bug in front of me in the summer they're always smacking their disgusting bodies against the screen door...gross
when they flit on my skin i feel like they're going to engulf my entire body and eat me alive.
Eugh they're nothing more than winged spider amputees. I'm terrified they'll go in my ear or mouth or eyes. they're worse than moths becaouse they have the same properties but are bigger.
