Yes, but not in the way it is often meant. The *real* term for "fatphobia" is cacomorphobia. The way "fatphobia" is most often being used is just overweight people being upset that not everyone is into that body type.
Yes, people casually insulting someone is wrong. Don't be a dick; even if you don't like someone's appearance. But conversely don't call someone a dick for not being attracted to you.
Edit: I also don't like that my generation seems to be using the word "phobia" for "thing a person doesn't like". It undermines genuine phobias.
Hating fat people is certainly a thing but "phobia" implies fear. So I'm gonna say maybe there is like 3 people in the entire world with "fat phobia"
Thank you. Doesn't look like too many folks understand what a phobia even is, but they are willing to debate it.
i mean! theres also homophobia that isnt a fear of gay people so yo entire statement just kinda pemdas'd and canceled out
No, absolutley not. I'm a fat cunt, and no one is prejudice against fat people for anything but legitimate reasons. It's unattractive and it's very unhealthy. Honestly, this whole body positivity movement has been a net negative for society as a whole.
Those are lies. I cannot believe you are ignoring the struggles fat people go through. This comment alone proves fatphobia exists. You sir are despicable.
You think he has an irrational fear of fat people because he feels it is unhealthy to be fat? lol
Of course it is. It's extremely common to hate on people for their weight.
Yes. I have heard lots of people saying things like "Ugh, I can't stand fat people'. Also, I'm heavier than a lot of people in the country I'm in, and when I lose weight I notice that I am respected more.
In the UK things are different. A lot more people are my size, and people care a lot less how you look. When I'm over there the freedom to dress as sloppily as I want is quite refreshing. Here though, it's almost like it's a person's duty to look 'put together', in a basic sense.
fatphobia does not exist its only ever used by that bullshit acceptance group to twist and suit the narrative.
What did you just say? How dare you. Fatphobia does exist (your comment proves this) and all the problems they face for their body type are valid goddamn it.
the word is a made up word bozo, none of them face real oppression. Me although im fat myself i will never consider myself oppressed/marginalized which that's what they compare themselves to and also a term that is just used for those who are attention seeking and what that elusive clout
and you're saying that an obese body type should should be valid? pfft give me a break theres nothing ok with an obese body type havent you seen the numerous articles of people dying from obesity every year?
you also unfortunately get an l + ratio and git gud with your troll comments
They do face real oppression. And it isn't a made up word. You're just saying that because secretly you really hate fat people and want to ignore and invalidate their problems, bigot.
Okay first of all I said their PROBLEMS are valid. But their body type is valid too. I don't understand what so many people on here have against fat people. You should be ashamed of your offensive behavior.
im sorry 🤣 but how does that make me a bigot? in what way do i hate fat people? i never claimed to hate them all i said is that they are fat not oppressed they dont really have real word problems 🤡 instead they like to find other shit to complain with like for example no clothing store should keep making xxxl sizes because of how much material is needed
or
how theyll go after fat people for losing weight
in short you must be an extremely bigger clown than i ever thought youd be
What kind of question is that? So you're a bigot that's in denial of your own bigotry? You're ignoring the problems and oppression fat people face and claiming it ain't real, saying fatphobia isn't real, and then shaming them for their body type. Bigotry at its FINEST. So you better check yourself.
Also did you just say that they shouldn't make xxxl clothing sizes? So you support excluding fat people? What's wrong with you? proof that fatphobia exists.
No. Most people who claims to be a victim of "fatphobia" have a persecution complex. Weight is something you can change, if being fat was that bad you could just do something about it.
Yes. While I do agree that being fat is unhealthy, and that this whole fat acceptance movement nowadays can be bad for society, I don't think most of the critics really hate it for that reason. Like people are unhealthy in lots of other ways (drinking, smoking, prescription drugs, social media addicts, etc.), but they don't care about all that.
They care about this though just because they find fat people unattractive, and it's human nature unfortunately to just not like unattractive people. For most of us, that dislike of unattractive people has been mostly papered over by our civilised upbringing, and the (true) conclusions we come to that unattractive people can't help how they look and that looks shouldn't matter anyway. But sometimes that irrational hatred can come to the surface again, like when we're stressed or pissed off. Usually, it will only arise though when we have a legitimate reason to blame it on, because it would damage us psychologically to realise that we're actually just terrible people deep down. Like in this case, these people are only fatphobic because they're apparently just looking out for the health of society (which is clearly just transparent bullshit).
I'd vote Yeah, unless I'm misunderstanding the term. The way I interpret it is that you immediately dislike someone just from knowing they're fat (or you're actually afraid of fatness for whatever reason, but I'm focusing on the social aspect).
This goes past merely being concerned for someone because they're overweight or not wanting to date them because you don't think they're attractive. You seriously hate them, or at least have some hostility.
And yeah, I think that's a real thing. The only way someone being overweight affects you is by sight, or indirectly through their medical bills, but some people take it a little bit too far, as if Mr. 300-Pounder is the source of all their troubles and at least half their taxes.
The phrase just gets pushback because of all the dudes on social media claiming "fatphobia" because they couldn't get a triple-wide plane seat or something. Like any other -phobia or -ism, people with jimmied britches and short fuses doesn't mean the actual thing doesn't exist.
Here's some perspective. I wouldn't fuck a midget but I'm not afraid of one either.
If you are a genuinely scared of a human being towards overweight people simply because of their size, then yes, you are fatphobic. But I assume you mean hating fat people.
Yes there's real people out there who hate fat people. Treat people the way you wanted to be treated.
