Is fishing animal-cruelty?
It seems pretty fucked up to trick a fish into biting into a sharp, metal hook, and pulling it up just for your amusement. I bet it hurts the little fella quite bad...

I didn’t want to partake in it as a kid for much the same reason, much to the dismay of my father
The way you put it is cruelty. I've seen people fish for sport and throw them back which is pointless. But if you kill it and put it out of its misery to eat it, then not.
I always find vegetarians interesting. It's not ok to eat a cow but a fish is? Makes no sense
Vegetarians eat neither cows NOR fish. People who don't eat cows, but who DO eat fish are called pescotarians.
I can't believe this incredibly ignorant comment was actually thumbed up...
I'm a vegetarian and I don't eat fish! Those "vegetarians" who don't eat cows but eat any other meat are lying to themselves, lol.
For the longest of time geese were considered a good lent food because they considered geese to be fish. They didnt understand migration, and their best guess was barnacles being their eggs for their larval stage of being fish.
100% they knew it was bullshit but hey meat during lent using bullshit logic is pretty fair. Meat is good.
It's a tough one. I'm pro fisihing, but being hooked im the mouth aint exactly nice. Fishing for food is defo not animal cruelty though.
Underneath the bridge
Tarp has sprung a leak
And the animals I've trapped
Have all become my pets
And I'm living off of grass
And the drippings from my ceiling
It's okay to eat fish
Cause they don't have any feelings

I'm against fishing and I don't have any piercings or tattoos. I have no pain tolerance.
Someone sent me a picture of all the antifa mugshots from some riot and they all looked mutant. Wish I could send it its hilarious
Yes. Not that I really care, I'm not vegetarian. But it is. Best case scenario, they have a big hole in their face that they may or may not survive. Worst case scenario, they suffocate to death. It's the horror of being delicious and nutritious.
Not necessarily, no. I just wonder about people who talk about animal cruelty but also eat meat.
But you personally don't care about animal cruelty? Really? I mean, WTF?
Not all ways of acquiring meat involve just as much cruelty, though.
They involve varying levels of cruelty. I'm not aware of any ways of acquiring meat that don't involve cruelty. I don't like to play this game of "well, it's not as bad THAT" when the animal's still in pain.
I'm also too lazy to do research into where my food is sourced to make sure it's being grown "humanely", especially since there's so many lies that go around. I'm not putting it down, though. If you know of some meat or fish that's less-cruelly harvested, let me know how it can be purchased and I'll look into it. If you don't, I don't know why you're trying to lecture me on animal cruelty.
This is an interesting question. I think it is, when fishermen get us our fish it's not by hooking them, it's just trapping them in a big net so, yeah
im more worried about the pain the chips feel when they go in the deep fryer
I guess the fish experience would be like removing a tooth without anesthetics.
Yes it is. How would you like it if I did that to you? Not very much I bet
Fish do not feel pain, I catch fishes when the tides are calm and catch them.
Scientifically they do feel pain. But its unknown if they feel agonizing pain as we do.
Seeing how fish can be bitten in half and are still conscious I'm going to say they have a dulled sense.
They feel something for sure, I believe. Ike jime is a Japanese method of killing a fish right after it's caught. It causes instant brain death and preserves the taste and quality of the flesh. When a slowly dying fish is left flopping around in distress, it releases chemicals or whatever that "taint" the taste of it.
Only if you consider fish to be capable of complex thought.
Fish feel pain sure. But its unknown if the pain is just a reactive "get away from thing" or an AGONIZING experience for more complex animals such as mammals.
Seeing how fish routinely get eaten alive, some fish you can see swimming around after half of them being bitten off. If I was a fish I hope I dont feel the pain of that.
Evolution wise it's good to feel pain. Agony isnt a good thing if you need to flee from a preditor that can come from any angle.
