Is having "stutter-breaths" normal?

I often have an odd breathing stutter, which is the best way I can think of to describe it.

To explain, sometimes when I take a deep breath, it will come out as 3-5 halting inhales. It sounds a bit like the breaths of someone who has been recently sobbing.
I have yet to find any instigating factors, such as mood, awareness, or even altitude.

Any theories?

I once was breathing like that, went to the doctor, turns out to be pneumonia. Ask the doc.

I catch myself doing that from time to time.

So I'd say normal, but if you're doing it multiple times a day might be good to ask your doctor.

I'm not sure, but I'd ask your doctor about it next time your in for an exam just in case.
